Ok this is cool but quite a few things to take into consideration

first of all what FAT system does the 1K use,, if its FAT 16 its gonna limit the drive space ,, here is a quote on the Seagate website regarding the SEAGATE ST92011A "Windows 95 FAT16 based operating systems are also limited to 8.4GB" But im not sure what system the 1K uses

Also i would opt for the Toshiba or Seagate i also thing this Tosheba drive is used in the MAC MINI,s

I think we should all add to this thread and once we have concluded the best drives to use we can make a new Topic sticky with all the information gathered

Also one thing that worries me is the use of a 1K in a live situation with a Hard drive, i know the vibration could case some problems but i suppose this will only be known once its tested in a live set

hmm i noticed they just took away the MPD16 blah blah blah. just speculation but maybe they will announce the incorportation of the harddrives soon.

if you open the bios in a Hex Editor program you will see that there are some FAT12, FAt 16 FAT32 options in there along with other clues... i mentioned this a long time ago but no one was to clued up then to know..

these are small 2"1/2 hard drives

laptop HDD's and there cheap too!! already placed a order for mine..
going to be tinkering around very soon...
to be honest i dont see why it cant work straight away..

Well, the MPC 2000XL & MPC 4000 both use FAT32, so my guess is that they will stick with that....

The MPC 4000 has a drive and I've never had any problems in a live situation.

Also, the MPC 4000 has a feature called "spin down", which will turn park the drive. Since once you've loaded the sampler, it doesn't need the harddrive any more. I would guess that Akai will be implementing that on the 1000....
