sample-based producers VS non-sample-based producers

can somebody please clarify the difference for me?

Sorry, dont really understand the question other than what is already in the title. Some people use samples, some dont..

Can you expand a little..?

what kind of question is that ok sample based producers rely on sampling (mostly from vinyl). non sampling producers use keyboards, fruity loops or any thing that already has pre set sound built in whateva your workin with. but some do both. sample and use keyboards or whateva. i hate to ask you this question but do you do music cause thats a pretty basic question.

excuse my newbie-ness, but this is where the confusion is: you say sample based producers use samples (from vinyl or whatever) then you say non-sample based producers use equipment like keyboards or perhaps s/w like fruityloops... but you're still sampling the sound from the keyboard... fruityloops uses audio files, so if you use a keyboard to produce music in fruityloops, are you not using samples of that keyboard?? is that not considered "sampling"??

this is all semantics. Its like this, sample based cats use there own samples that they find. none sample based cats use presets and patches to make ther beats. like instead of sampling a melody, they compose it there self. or say a bassline. drums though on both spectrems are using samples. but dont let this keep up late at night. so zip the lip

it's not that i'm trying to limit myself to either one, cause that WOULD be stupid (in my opinion)... but thanks for clearing that up for me...

get in where u fit in. I use both techniques but lean towards sampling.

oh definitely, don't get it twisted, i ain't tryin' to do things certain ways just because whoever does this and whoever does that... i'mma do things the way i choose to, f**k whatchu heard... i just wasn't clear on the definition and the i guess the terms had me confused... but thanks again dog... peace

its about what kinda sound u want on ya beats.

u like east coast, boombap styile beats. then sample

u like westcoast or south rap, use keybarods..

as an example...

u can use both ya know, sample, cut it up, change the pitch, timestrech whatever... its all about the final beat.

word. its all in how u use what u got. you can make a dope beat without sampling vinyl but some only feel comfy wit just vinyl and nothings wrong with that, but its always nice to have a little somthing extra when you get tired of diggin for that particular loop or sound or something else to fit.
