From 1000 to 2000XL MCD

Just a quick question on the two machines. I am planning on switching from a MPC 1000 to a 2000 XL MCD in my home studio. I want to keep the 1000 so when I'm at school I can play with it and work on ish there as well. My question is are the CF readers the same and compatible with eachother. Meaning, can I be working on something at home, and put my samples and programs on a card from the 2000XL and then pop it in my 1000 and work on it at school. If not what might I have to do to get the files compatible in order to do this and make it work. The Multi-Card drive (MPC2000XL-MCD) supports various types of removable flash memory, such as Compact Flash, Smart Media, Memory Stick, and Secure Digital.

The MPC1000 comes with standard Compact Flash which is used as the storage medium.

This straight from the Akai website. Just use the Compact flash cards on both and save as .wav files... you can't go wrong.
Why are you switching? For the 1K you can use sound editors on your computer via USB. Thats the one thing I wish the 2KXL had... a USB connection.

I don't do much of my editing of samples on the computer, I'd rather do it all on the MPC...I got the 1000 because at the time it was very cheap and I didnt ever use a MPC before, so I figured it was a good start...but now that I know a lil bit, I'd rather get one machine that I can do everything on (Like the 2000XL or the 4000) but I really like the CF reader on the 1000 which goes great with my computers CF reader and together gets everything done pretty quick....that's why I want the 2000 XL MCD or the 4000 but I dont know if I got the funds for the 4000...anyway thanks for the input.

Might be even cheaper for you to get a second hand 2000XL and then upgrade the floppy drive or zip drive (whatever it comes with) to a card reader yourself... it's really easy and it saved me a few hundred.

Got my MPC XL for £375 but cheapest I could find new retailed at £700... quite a big save

But if you want that smell of newness I guess new is the way to go...

NO that's definately a thought...how much is it to install a card reader and how easy is it?

...The drive shouldn't cost any more than 50 - 60USD, some places I think sell them for around $30.
If you're replacing a floppy drive, its fairly easy. But if you're replacing a zip drive it just a straight swap.

Good looking out...right now I've been bidding on a MPC 2000XL MCD for around $900...if it falls through I'm gonna try and get a cheap 2000XL and just put the CF drive in myself. Peace n Love.
