Anyone else find song mode useless?

on the 2kxl i use the track mutes in various seq. then chain them togethter in song mode...convert song to seq.... then do a 'live' take of some drum fills/sample imbellishment over the whole song for added variation..

86? i thought it came out in 88? Did you get a early one? ADR 15 or something Please elaborate, we don;t have many cats here who remember that far back.

Dude...Just because I'm that old dosen't mean I actually remember But I'm pretty darn sure I have a copyright around here somewhere on a song written in 86 with an MPC...The first half of the CD was done on a Linn 9000. I was working with some cats who allways had the latest and greatest. They were also connected to some manufacturers so it's possible it was a ALPHA or BETA unit... We also used an Emulator 2- Probably the first sampler you could buy for under 30k...big 5' floppy disks, DX7 and Jupiter keyboard with a midi retrofit . It was the first midi lab I'd ever seen. Of course, back then it was all analog so there was no such thing as the quality home studio - the tape machines alone were big as a car...and expensive...it wasn't until about 89 that I got my own MPC 60 and a midi keyboard and then another couple of years I think before ADATS came out and made digital recording affordable. Well not really affordable but at least available. The first ADATS were about $5000 for 8 tracks of pretty bad digital audio but at least you could release a CD from your bedroom that was good enough to air. On the other hand, it coulda been 88, or I could have just dreamed the whole thing...

The Linn 9000, wow. I had one here for a while and it was a really good feeling machine, the size of it, the angle the panel was at, the sound, the mixer and tune mode really great machine, lots of luxuries for the time.

having my song all programmed and ready in song mode is ideal cause i run it with cubase in snyc to my vocals, so song is ideal for me...

maybe 4 u , u dont need it, but it aint useless...

thats all i've learn'd to use is song modebut thats great to see the other uses of the MPC like some one said ,what ever makes it best for you right
i've tried the cut and paste but it's too much to keep track of,

fader pro i've had dreams like that too, i swear when i bought my MPC 6 yrs ago i had work'd adrum machine exactlly like it , it was like dejavu i still get these feelings at times
