Mpc/keyboard question

I have a 4000 as well. I just hooked it up to a Motif ES. I'm having the same problem as the original poster. Do I need to assign the seperate sounds to seperate tracks in the Motif or is it a way to do this in the 4000? I'm just using the Motif for sounds and want to sequence in the MPC.

This is simply untrue. All you have to do is set up keygroups for each instrument spaning lets say 1 octave each (just for an example). ...but if you assign differnt midi channels to your instruments, you can control the volume, filter cut-off, modulation (and other stuff that's midi channel specific), independently for your instruments. which is nice for mixing with a midi fader box!

Read about Qlink assingment in the 4000 and dont underestimate their function with progams, and assing each program to its own part in the internal mixer and this it aint no thing man.. 4000 is more versitile than most know. You just gota be creative with your methods and know how your machine of choices flexability can compensate for adverse methods. Its not always best to go by the book. Its better to first think of your own method and then adapt it to the limitations of the tool for a firmly forged integration of personal style and technical know how.

In this case you will want to set up your midi outs on your 4000 to individual tracks and set up keygroups and what not in your motif to recieve the midi data. One keygroup or instrument per midi channel, unless ther is some kind of midi filter that is specific to track within the 4000 that I am un aware of. I am sure there is an even better method but im not familiar with the motif. Also note that you can make a track for each instrument or sound to keep things clean (even if they use the same midi channel).. you just have to make sure you label so you remember which track is for what instrument.
