""dont know how this hard drive would work (without a OS update). because when you go to the load/save screen there is only save to "Memory Card & Internal memory". Unless its gonna recognise the hard drive as a memory card, i know it wont be internal memory because thats the flash memory area. ""((quote))

If it sees the hard drive as a memory card, then does that imply the cf card will be rendered useless if hdd is installed, except perhaps for usb connection?

Sure, but maybe it can detect the hard drive and add another option to that menu.

"dont know how this hard drive would work (without a OS update)"

The current OS may already support a Hard drive. No one can rule this out seeing how no one has connected one of these approved harddrives to the MPC. This likely due to the already mentioned fact about the lack of a proper connector.

Just because you do not see "HD" when picking a place to save means nothing. The MPC2000XL can coorectly determine if an Internal ATAPI Zip is connected and dynamically removed "floppy" and replace it with "ATAPI".

oh ok well if the 2000xl does that maybe the 1000 will too, im all for it, i wont buy a hard drive though , hopefully one of yall will get it working.

Another question , i wonder how the usb would function with the hard drive, would u have to copy from the hard drive to a card to use the usb or would it be str8 from the hard drive.

You know maybe it's just a mistake by akai on their site and those are the HDs compatible with the 2500. People on the akai mailing list have already tried hooking up hds to the internal connector, with no success. I think if the OS already supported it Akai would tell everyone, to boost sales. Or then again maybe they're waiting til the 2500 is out and then going to put out the new os.

If you do a scan through the OS file in a hex editor it has text strings for Hard disk operation already in there...for example

List of Storage Options
MEMORY CARD
HARD DISK
INTERNAL MEMORY

List of extras
MPC1000 Hard Disk

List of Storage Type
AHardDisk

List of Volume Types
FAT12
FAT16
FAT32
MSDOS5.0

There's plenty of believers in here I'm just trying to balance things out.

here is what was just told to me by someone at akai:

The following hard drives have been tested and approved for use in the MPC1000:

Fujitsu
Model: MHN2200AT

Seagate
Model: ST92011A

Toshiba
Model: MK4026GAX (40GB)

Sup bro? Yep, these drives will work in your 1000. If you haven’t taken it apart yet:

It’s pretty easy. Just need to take off the screws holding the bottom plate on. Then the sides, then the face of the Compact Flash. You’ll see an empty slot for a hard drive with a ready pin set. These 3 drives have been tested and approved. Ain’t that cool???

You’ll need some sort of case to hold the hard drive. We have them on order, but they won’t be in for a while. If you’re a computer guy, I’m sure you’ll be able to find some sort of housing that fits.

as far as the 1k recognizing the hdd, it should automatically add an option to the save/load source for hard drive.

as far as a needed os upgrade, we wouldn't need it for the hdd but one is coming

a conversion kit is also becomming available for this as well.
