does the 002 come with a pci card that has to be installed into the computer like the 001 or is everything installed in the 002 ......  what all do you need for the 002

because the 001 only works with a machine with empty slots to install the card... that cancels out a lot of the other macs....

The 002 is a digital mixing controller that use a firewire connection port. It has studio connection ports(Foscurite Mic Pre-amps,MIDI,I/O's,Ect.). Use can use it as a standalone mixer or sync it with Pro Tools 5.3.2(comes with mixer). If you don't have a computer(preferably a Mac)with firewire ports then don't even bother!

:) The Digi 002 does not come with a Firewire PCI card. Your PC must have the Firewire port; if not then you must buy one. I went to the 002 tour given by Digidesign and it was off the hook. I would surely cop one if I had the money.

It doesn't crush it because the software is the same (pro tools le). But you do get a lot of more creative control with the mixer.
My boy has the Digi 001 & it does more than get the job done & it cost less.

LOL!! not to mention it is capable of 96khz recording, is a standalone digital mixer, 16 more midi output channels,  has transport controls, 4 mic pres and finally needs no pci card.

Digi design has also released their ASIO drivers, which now makes this hardware compatible with sequencers other than protools.  I'm considering this option for myself.. even just for the digital mixer and transport controls makes this package very tasty ;P
