Oh no they didn't put a CD drive in that baby !!!

Oh no they didn't add grid editing !!!

...damn, MPC 2000 XL for sale soon !

By evildead Mon Sep 12, 2005 8:29 pm
the grid edit matrix display is hot!

Akai has fixed just about every issues I had with my 2Kxl when I sold it.

If this thing really does retail for 2 g's it really doesn't impress me. It doesn't have enough ish going on with it to warrant that price. For that price I would expect a full fledged sampler.

Personally, I'm not looking into MPC's at all anymore.

That "shiz" don't have 1/10th of what the MV got, and the "new" mpc features...well...the MV has that all...tons more and it's way more advanced on the MV. But I ain't a proponent of MV's. I'm just calling it how I see it. To me MPC's and MV's are the same "shiz" and I ain't checking for either.

From what I've heard, when the MV came out, Roland had bought out Akai at the time. Can anyone confirm this?

Oh Hell NAWWWWWW!!!!

Some other dude or company or conglomerate bought out Akai. It's the same "entity" that bought out Numark and Alesis I believe. I dunno...that knowledge might not be right cause I got it 3rd or 4th hand from this forum months ago.

No doubt, I'm aware of Jack O'Donnell, but I believe that was only last year that he bought Akai. From the hearsay that I recall in 2003 when the MV came out, that's when Roland supposedly bought Akai. Considering it's just hearsay from some firends and some Guitar Center employees, I'm not entirely sure. I gotta search around the web and see what else I can dig up. I got all the info on O'Donnell, but thats about it.

Yeah, it was last July that Jack O'Donnell took over the distribution of Akai in the US. http://news.harmony-central.com/News/2004/Numark-Distributes-Akai.html

There's also an article of a new distributor of Akai located in LA in 2003, but it doesnt state by whom. http://aes.harmony-central.com/115AES/Content/Akai/PR/New-Distribution.html
I gotta check Roland's address in LA.

According to the specs, the 2.5k will murder the 2kxl. However, if I were you, I'd hold out until enough 2.5k units are sold to se whats up if theres any problems with it, let alone a definite price tag which seems debatable (and possibly flexible).
