ONE, I havent found any evidence of Roland taking over distribution of Akai in 2003, but the fact definitely remains that there was a distribution problem in '03 before the 1k was released.
http://www.sonicstate.com/news/shownews.cfm?newsid=1197
It's good to hear as Akai have been a little quiet the last few months while they restructure and sort out new distribution.

I gotta look into it more, since I'm still curious what the truth was back then. I can share some theory to the rumors, but that ain't gonna do any good unless I have factual evidence to back it up.

The release date is estimated to be another 6 weeks... but that was atleast a week or so ago. Anything can change, but i'd suggest that you wait it out so you don't have to deal with "buyers remorse".

Roland have nothing to do with Akai.

There's been a million articles about this, I don't know why people still get this confused.

Akai is owned by the same venture capitalist who owns Alesis and Numark. I dont remember his name, but he owns all three.

I've been told November, but that could be early November or late, who knows? Also that's in Australia, we'll prolly get it a bit after you guys.

I wouldn't hold fast to Akai's release dates. I remember waiting for the 1k to be released. It was months and months after it was supposed to be already out when it finally hit the shelves.

It usually takes a little while before they just announce the product and it's out on the shelves. They need time to hype it up first.

Sept 17th is the release date in Japan. I`m not buying one through since I got Live 5 and Reason too. Plus I feel that the functions may not will but may cross over to the 4k in the future.

For all of the people who are really interested. Pre-ordering has apparently started:

Good luck to all those out there who are going to go buy this right now.

I've found some official documentation but because I cannot upload it on this forum I posted it here
It's the official overview (pdf) and the press release (zip).

That "shiz" don't have 1/10th of what the MV got, and the "new" mpc features...well...the MV has that all...tons more and it's way more advanced on the MV. But I ain't a proponent of MV's. I'm just calling it how I see it. To me MPC's and MV's are the same "shiz" and I ain't checking for either.

1/10 is too steep to be even real...come on give it more credit than that

i made a beat on one of these at PLASA on sunday, but i cant tell you people anything useful really - i'm not a fan of anything past the 3000 - these newer mpc's seem like cheap plastic toys to me, god the pads! how could they screw up a classic so bad??
