Protools Le SYNC with MPC Help please

hi there,

just synced a digi 002 + mpc, (via midi clock + mmc)
put mpc in slave when i dump audio into protools Le.
(tempo is the same on mp and protools, frame set on 30 too..)
latency is set on 128,
have the same problem when low monitoring latency enable,
so it is not a latency problem.

i got problem to match the protools Le grid
when i dump my mpc audio into it..

can i move the protools grid to match the audio file when recorded ?
because i moving each audio dump each time i record.. is not cool..
in fact when i record, it doesn't cut my sound at the begining,
it record all but add very little blank before.
is there any delay issue ?

i'm just new to protools..
please help me

Hey its a little unclear what you want. If you are recording from your mpc, and your starting at 0:00:00, there isnt supposed to be any space. If you want, you can instead start recording at bar 9 so you'll have space. If you use swing on the mpc, the audio will never line up perfectly with the grid in protools, unless you choose one of the midi groove templates, which suck anyway. It's off, but not by much.. Why would you want your music to be dead on, and stiff anyway? I'm not sure if this is what you meant, you'll have to be a little more clearer. You can go to digidesign.com and access the forums there, they should be able to help you. There are a lot of newbie questions already answered there.

hi sorry for difficulties to explain it,
i'm not speaking about midi recording, just about audio
(i'm not loosing the mpc groove)

ex:
here 4 bar

"A" protools grid
B" protools audio in recorded from the mpc
kick should start at the first
because it is a the first beat first bar in the mpc like
A= 1 - - - 2 - - - 3 - - - 4 - - -
B= kick


it doesn't so i have a thing like that
A= 1 - - - 2 - - - 3 - - - 4 - - -
B= ++kick
++ meaning the little delay i'm try to explain

i would like when i record the mpc sequence in audio in protools
it start perfectly at the first first bar.
is it possible ?

I think you need to add a few blank sequences so as to give midi time to sync up with both machines

yo i had the same problem on the mbox and COOOCOOO hooked me up. your settings are off. do a search on ptle or do a threadstarter search on jwales cause i started the thread. after that i could start recording on the first bar

here ya go its in the mpc 1000 section under CALLING ALL PROTOOLS GURUS. its a setting that has to be changed before it will sync up perfectly. let me know if this helps

i had some good enough results with those settings,
hope it could help new one to protools syncing
check this:

in the MPC (here i use a 4000) go to
MISC => SYNC IN
ENABLE MIDI CLOCK
or MIDI TIME CODE
ENABLE RECEIVE MMC
frame set on 30
SYNC ON

in protools Le (used with a DIGI 002 only MIDI OUT to MPC IN) go to
MIDI => MIDI BEAT CLOCK
ENABLE FOR "MPC" (i mean the midi goes to the mpc input)

after go to SETUP => PERIPHERALS => SYNCRO
GENERIC MTC => MPC
minimum sync delay stay at 90
ENABLE CONTROL VIA MMC

ok then here,
SETUP PREF => MIDI
here the most important thing for me,
"GLOBAL MIDI PLAYBACK OFFSET"
i putted about -1140
so when i record audio in protols
it match almost perfectly the grid
if i let the offset to 0 i will have about 045 tick delay on the mpc.


and a last thing in,
WINDOWS => SHOW SESSION SET UP
TIMECODE SET TO 30 same as in the mpc
and TIMECODE SETTINGS ENABLE TO MPC MIDI.

so i have 2 questions,
if you use the MIDI CLOCK in the MPC SYNC IN,
it match the tempo of protools, so you have "EXT" in the tempo screen of the mpc when start playing (or recording) in protools.
so if you change the tempo in protools it will change too in the mpc..
i'm afraid to loose the mpc groove or something...

don't have this problem when using MIDI TIME CODE instead of the MIDI CLOCK in the MPC.
(HERE YOU MUST HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME TEMPO IN THE BOTH UNIT)

what do you think, use ?
do you cut sounds after in protools to match up the bar
or you don't have to because you have a perfect sync.. ?
what settings do you use on the "GLOBAL MIDI PLAYBACK OFFSET" ?

i just mine sync up a few days ago the way i was told is:

1. on the mpc go to midi/sync and put it midi clock on.

2. what ever the tempo is the beat u want to record u put that tempo on PT.
were it has time line and stuff u click on tempo and and a pop up comes up u put the speed of the beat on the on PT the same as the MPC. start at one.

3.then go to midi on pro tools and click midi clock and enable it so when u press the space bar it will start the mpc.

that is how i was told from digi to do it and its been working good for me. hope this helps...
