My vote is for harddrives

cosign on that

Strange I have never heard of the 4k being infected with viruses, nor any other piece of recording equipment being infected either for that matter. Recording equipment being that of 9other samplers with hd's, & hard disk

well thats a good thing that people are happy about the hd. :)

i just hope that akai will also change the ordering of the files...

and by the way, nobody meant to balk.
i just find interesting to swap point of views especially when different.

"It just seems like that of all the "requests" I've heard from MPC1K users the request of "Please Akai give us the ability to put in a hard drive" ain't even in the top ten"

This is likely due to the fact that we already know it has been coming. No need to wish for something you know is going to come true.

You can go back through the archives and read where it appeared at one time Akai Pro was NOT going to provide for the HD option. There were a LOT of pissed off people then.

i think i'm gonna learn how to make a virus for the mpc 1000. i'll make infected programs and then give them to all of you suckers.

it'll make you have to reinstall your os's. ouch!!! 5 minutes lost!!!

Ouch, and pay you will... for the mpc2500.

I think that's AKAIs whole plan re: those features. Hurts, don't it? I may be in the same boat :)

Damned right. Christ, even the tiny SP303 has real-time effects tweaking -- Ah'll no be gaein AKAI any mair of my cash if that's their game!

No answer fae Akai yet on this..

well, get an sp303 then. (or a multi effect or a kickass analog filter!!)

actually did akai ever said that they would change this in an operating system for the 1k ????

now akai will release a new machine with better specs. that's just normal, nothing wrong there... what did you expect ?

and remember: operating system are not custom !!!

:?: :?: :?: :?:

sure it is, they can write anything to go in the OS as long as the processor and hardware can support it

I've got one.

But it doesn't help with what I'm talking about. I can't understand why the MPC1000 shouldn't be able to change the filter/pitch/effects while a sample is playing: as Beatconductor says, you can already do this with EQ.

This is extremely useful when playing drum/bass loops.

I'm not dissing the MPC1000. I think it's an very useful machine. It has filter/pitch/volume settings for each pad already, but those settings are fixed while the pad is playing. (Akai doesn't mention this in the MPC1000 manual)

Adding this feature would make it an extremely powerful piece of kit, extending its usefulness many times over. Lots of cheap samplers do this already; why not the MPC1000?

you are almost right. but not. i would say instead:
"they can write anything to go in the OS as long as the processor, hardware and the existing code can support it"

i explain:
to simplify, as far as good developpement is concern, it should go through 3 phases.

1: defining the specifications + planning eventual future update
2: analysis on how to implement the specs defined in 1
3: programming the operating system form defined in 1 and 2.

and once a phase is finished there are no step back.

so when there is an update, it should be planned before the first operating system is released. otherwise they would have to rewrite the code for every update and there would be even more bugs.

then, maybe they have planned to change the way the filter works, and it would be great ! (but i doubt it)

but noone can blame akai for not adding such a feature which seems to be a fairly big departure from what is already there.
unless this person can have access to the code and realize that the feature is actually there but commented out !! (oh my god!! )
