Acapella records......

Are there a lot of acapella records out there or not generally, and if so , if yall are sampling a voice, how do yall go about drowning out the background music and noise.........?

Usually they're on the B-sides of 12" singles.

Personally, I use accapellas on vinyls cause i feel easier to mix live. But it has its flipside, you cant make subtile breaks and effects. Plus the levels must be right at first. If they're not, you're bound to start your mix again.

I think he wants to isolate the voice track of a recording and just keep the acapella. If this is what you want to do I gotta tell you it's ALMOST impossible.

The only way you could even remotley do this is if you have two copies of the song. One would be the fullon track with vocals and instruments. The other would be just the instrumental.

Take both and make sure that they start at the EXACT same point. I mean down to the sample accurate. Next take the instrumental track and invert (reverse) the phase of the instrumental mix. play the two back on seperate tracks in a sequencer or do a 50/50 mix in soundforge and the inverted phase signal of the instrumental should effectivley cancel out the instrumental in the other track (not flawlessly but about 90% of it) leaving you with the accapella and some ghostly remnants of the beats. You cannot do this with mp3's and if you do it with vinyl you can't even so much as blow on the volume when your recording the tracks in or the amplitude difference will cause this nifty trick to not work.

yo prospect. say i have 2 copies of a record, and I play the original version on one side and the acapella version on the other + inverted phase.....will i be able to aquire an instrumental verion this way? (i know its rare to find a 12" with an acapella but not an instrumental....but i am just curious).

Honestly I haven't tried that, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
You would prob. still have that ghostly remnansce of the vocal track.
I think I know what i'll be doing tonight... ill try it out and get back to you
