re the 3.5 bar sample... u just need to decide what you want to do...

its not the mpc right its the basic concept, how do you line up a 3.5 bar loop with a 2 bar loop?

the 1st question is does the loop lock into the right tempo the way it is?

if not, fix that first (repitch or timestretch or chop) then come back...

if so either choose a 2-bar piece out of the 3.5 bar loop (thats what id do), or

if you really want the loops repeating at different intervals, on the mpc the only way is probably use a longer sequence, for instance a 28 bar sequence would let you fit in , um, 7 4bar loops together with 14 2bar loops together with 8 3.5bar loops :) :) math!

keepin in mind that usually in 'normal' music all the loops sync together at regular intervals, unless its like ambient background stuff or auxillary percussion layers etc.

oops i just read again u said 2.5 bar o well the principle is the same ;)

and re: the recording, not quite, but remember with the level-based trigger it won't start recording till u play the first note, if you set the level right.

and luckily it samples a bit xtra at the beginning so you don't lose the first bit of the note if it has a slow attack

hope i didn't confuse ya

wouldnt it be off anyways if you used a loop that was 2 1/2 bars long ?? i think you should just use the 2 bars. if you strech it its not going to change the bars. its just going to make that 2 1/2 bar loop longer.

do any of yall have this problem or is it just me......i guess it something to get used to.....well when im edditing the sample how do i know what the length is.the only way i know is to sequence it and look..........its there and more practicale way?

you got to use your ears and musical knowledge to determine in the first place,
how long is your sample in terms of bars/beats. if you don't know that, things will be um difficult :)

cause typically you trim first, to an even number of bars n beats (like try 2 bars, dont make it hard on yourself)... and THEN if it doesn't lock into place, u know u need to repitch or timestretch or chop.

know what i mean?

1. can you clap along with a beat, or tap your toe?

2. if not, give up

3. if so, the number of beats is like the number of times you tap your toe from beginning to end of a sample. Try counting in your head like "1 2 3 4". Typically those are the -beats- and every 4 of em is a -bar-.

4. don't think you can get away without figuring that part out. the mpc is a musical instrument, right? that means you got to know something about music.

ok stop me if im sounding too harsh. im a little unsure if yer just kidding at this point ;)
