Say I've got a dope drum track going with healthy peaks at -1dB, and I decide to add an 808 kick underneath my kicks to give the drum some low end. I set up the 808 so that it's not overbearing or anything-- it sounds fine. Come mixdown time, I assign my original kick drum and the 808 to the same output-- it goes way into red. Now I need to turn down the whole kick track obviously. My question is, in a situation like this, do you a) turn down the kick(s) manually using the mpc's internal mixer (which isn't always all that conventional) or b) assign the kicks to different outputs and deal with the problem while actually mixing. Any insight is appreciated.
