Tips for effective drum rolls?

Is it just the note variation slider that people use?

because to get the sound i want out of a roll i hold the tap tempo and do the note variation thing at the same time....... any other tips?

I use NOTE VARIATION to grimey up my snare, then I put the timing on 1/16(3), 1/32, or 1/32(3) (depending on how fast or slow you want your roll), start recording it, hold down TAP TEMPO NOTE REPEAT and the snare and let that mug RRRROOOOLLLLLLL...peace

For a plain ol' roll that's all it takes: the Note Repeat/Tap Tempo button and your pad, I likes mine set with Full Velocity off, that way I can have cascading drum rolls. If you're looking to make a drum roll that speeds up you can either accomplish this in multiple passes using different quantize/repeat settings, or you can turn your wheel to change the setting as you record the roll initially.
