Thanks man, I try my best, y'know?

you don't think akai can rewrite the code? not saying that will or will not, my point was to show you this is akai's proprietary os, not bill gates.... and it's their product not IBM's. so if they wanted to further customize their os (or code for that matter) they could. so there for the os is custom. (to them).

I use the Yammy RS7000 as a sound module for the MPC1000 and It has real-time filter/pitch/effects. The two make a great combo.

As for the HD, where can I get one? Which model am I supposed to buy and would I need an OS update? I have the current lastest one.

I think whoever doesnt like the HD idea doesnt like there MPC1k

From the MPC1000 section:

the unique NOTE REPEAT function plus new additions such as the two Q-Link sliders that allow real-time interaction with tuning, filter cutoff, layer switching, attack and decay.

That's utter bollocks. It's not really real-time interaction at all; someone at Akai should get shot for that.

[joke haha]yes, and you'll be surprised to learn that some of them have also four long green arms and come from space![/joke haha]

yes the hd is alright. i just find it difficult to find it great

(btw, the mpc1k is usb1.1. someone said 45 minutes to backup 512meg. i let you do the calculation for 20gigs! )

i don't know why anyone would back up 20gigs in one shot. i know i wouldn't. if you constantly back up what you are working on anyway, the 20 gig should not be a problem.

hell, i'd be happy with a 1 gig hard drive. we're at the point where sampling time (ie ram space) and space in general is no longer an issue for samplers - unless they jack up the bit depth and we all start mixing at 96....unlikely....

it's just that i'm sooo damn sick of having to drag my flash card from my mpc and put more drum samples onto it. i'm a fiend when it comes to drums. they're my favorite. i'm always needing something else. that's a lot of card usage.

a hard drive would be nice because they'd all be just there. saves time/wear and tear on the flashcard.

at the moment it is not by alphabetic order but by date i think. so with 40gb of samples, might be a bit difficult to find stuff on it.

that's really one of the things i don't like about this machine...

i searched, but i guess there's no way to make the list alphabetical so it's easy-er to search trough...
