Is this setup possible?
Okay, here's my setup: I have my MIDI controller running into the MIDI input of my soundcard (M-Audio Quattro) so as to control my VST instruments (which I run as standalones using Chainer).

My question is this: Can I record the sound of my playing a VST instrument into the current sequence on my MPC 2kxl?? I have the audio outputs of my Quattro running into my MP and I can hear my playing when I go into the sample screen. My thing is, is there a way to record it directly to the sequence, rather than having to sample my playing and then assigning it to a pad?

If anyone has an answer to this, please help me out. Thank you.


Okay, I posted this in the technical forum, got a no, but I figure since I spend most of my time in here, might as well get some opinions on what other routes I could take.

Or am I being boycotted here? If it's stupid, at least tell me.

Couldnt you just save the settings and wait until the tracking process to record your VSt instrument?

That's what I ended up doing. Just would like to do "everything" music based on my MP and then all the other technical stuff on the comp.

Hey hey Remedial.

This is exactly what multi-track sequencing on the MPC is all about.

Run your lines like this instead:

MIDI keyboard -> MPC -> Quatro.

This will allow you to record the note sequence from the keyboard to the MPC, which will then play the MIDI data into the VST synths, etc. All you have left to do now is figure out how to record the synth audio and lay it down beside the audio from the MPC and you're set.

If you don't know how to setup MIDI tracks already, make sure you know the channel the softsynth is operating on, then arrow over to where it says Drum on the main seq screen of the MPC. Flip this to say MIDI, then arrow over and set the channel to match the VST, and the output (A or B) to match the out you ran the line from into the Quatro. The MPC will react to any incoming MIDI data from the keyboard as though it was being played on the channel of the currently selected MIDI track. This way you can play any instrument you want and only have to flip channels (and tracks) on the MPC.
