Just wanna be first! Let's hope people will use the search button before posting the same question 1000 times...

I guess that Akai will soon sell some standard memory expansions for premium prices!

I wonder which memory expansion (non-Akai) can we use to install?
Where to buy it and how much it did cost you?

Please share us your experience as soon as you've got it up and running.

MPC 1000 users should be able to answer this question since the MPC 2500 uses the same memory. So if the MPC 1000 can use non-Akai memory without any issues, than the 2500 should be able to do the same.

Following advice in the MPC 1000 forum...I just bought and inserted Laptop Memory (256 MB Centon PC 133) into the MPC 2500. It cost me $53. The MPC 2500 reads the memory as 128MB. This addition of this memory made the MPC take about 7 seconds to power up.

I read the posts about the non-AKAI memory and noticed something. You can buy these other memory modules for as little as $40 maybe even less. They have twice as many chips as the AKAI memory. So you are adding twice as much heat as the AKAI memory because the non-AKAI module is 256 MB instead of 128 MB. I seriously don't think it is worth the savings. I'm also curious what the boot up time is with AKAI memory vs. non-AKAI memory.

I will look into that as well. Maybe leave the MPC on for hours to see if there is any difference in the temp of the RAM.

The MPC only reads 1/2 the memory SO why would "heat" be an issue when the other half is just there not in use.....?

Because it's still connected and drawing electricity. It doesn't matter whether or not the memory is used.

the 1k has been out for some time now and i know just about 90% of its owners have the non-akai brand. no one has ever made a complaint about their machine over heating or anything like that. the non-akai, is fine. did u read the sticky on top of the 1000k board. we were all talking about everything regarding which brands gave us the most problems (just not working, not performance issues) and which ones worked without a problem.

The 1K is not the 2.5K. Also, you won't have to remove your AKAI RAM if your must have your MPC serviced.

I contacted zzounds (aka Same Day Music). They will price match Nova Musik, offering a lower price of $107 for anyone intersted.

FAM, the 2.5k takes the same memory as the 1k.

Can everyone please stop acting like this is a whole new MPC? The 2.5 K is based on the 1k, the same people that built the 1k are building the 2.5 k, and they are not going to redesign anything they don't have too.

The 1000 board actually got a lot of answers and probably more direct and indirect akai input than any other forum out here.

the special memory thing on the 1k was from a fault, they didn;t mean for it to be akai branded, it just didn;t work with all memory like they planned so they had to buy a bunch up and sell it, which adds overhead.

thank you E :!:

also, for everyone that just joined within the last 3 months, please do us a favor and USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION and do some research. about 85% of the questions you may have probably have been asked already. Search before you ask or make a comment. for the remaining 15% of your questions, please feel free to ask and we will provide help whenever possible. this thing about the memory, like Elmacaco and i both said, it uses the same memory as the 1k and the 2.5k is built from a 1k platform so it will re use some of the 1k parts. do you think the CF reader is different than the 1k? NO!
