Problems with DSDD disks - Need help

I jus got some disks off ebay and when i put the in the mpc and try and format them they make a wierd noise and then it says there is no dick in the drive. I have other disks which work in it so i know its not the drive, if anybody knows whats wrong it would be appreciated.

do other disks get recognized in your 60? Your drive might be messed up if not. Try a cleaning disk from Radio Shack or a computer store and try again. As a test you can try a HD 1.44mb disk with the hole covered with tape to see if the drive will recognize it and format it.

Ey... I have the same thing happen 2 my floppy drive. I will turn it on and it says that there is no disk in the floppy drive. Then I use my buddy the cleaning disk. Now it recognizes that there is a disk in the drive. It loads some of the sounds then it says that the disk is corrupt. Try some more and it erros out. Give it a few more tries and it finally loads the sounds... all this with the same disk.

I'm almost positive that it's the drive (sorry DJ Vanquish) and not the disks. My gurl has good days 2 when she loads my samples on the 1st shot. I think my unit has the original floppy drive. Any idea how much Forat or VST charges 4 a new drive? I looked at the jumper settings and all that but I think that may be out of my technical reach. I can R&R but soldering, etc. is outside of my capabilities. Any suggestions appreciated. -uno-

Yall ever use HD disks? that might be what crapped out your drive.

Check the FAQ, there is all the floppy info you need, no soldering, it's just ribbon connectors and screws.

Yeah, I admit it... I used HDs when I 1st got my 60 but that was b4 I knew the deal. I been HD-free 4 over a year now. I hope that is not the cause but if it is then let this be a lesson 2 all of u out there that refuse 2 stop using HDs. Don't mess with them HDs b/c it kills your drive... and a drive is a terrible thing 2 replace. I'll checc the FAQ again. -uno-

hey if you don't know you can;t be faulted, but using them wears your drive more than normal ones, we've had others testify how they lost their drives. But a few people have replaced their floppies with cheap ebay drives successfully, so check the FAQ and get to replacing.
