Not sure but I thought it was mostly just 16th with the snares moved early.

try Drum and Bass tutorial in Google, I see a bunch and most seem to stick with hard 16's.

While we're at it, What's the UK Garage swing setting?

uk garage: 65% and above- use short samples- like picth all your drums up by +50.....bpm around 130-135

drum n bass swing? nah- unless your going for that andy c sound (which i think is actually 6/8 time) just emulate the kind of push pull you get on breaks- as drum n bass beats are just breaks sped up....dont use swing and try turning hte quantize off...

ive found in drum n bass you need to really push most of your notes back in the sequence so they hit earlier..

when i worked with the 2kxl i often put the main kick and snare at 52 or 53
and later at 2 or 3 and the ghostsnare at 54 and about 7 later and then experiment whith different settings for the closed hihats

a little tip: first record the main snare and kick, put closed hihats on every 8th
assign a ghostsnare at maximum later (i think 23 on the 2kxl) then set to 8th press play and hold tap tempo and press the pad with the ghost

even though it's set to 8th it will play 16 but not every 16th

the hats in combination with the ghosthits played this way will produce a very basic but common snareroll i dnb

Dub, could you expand on that, please? This is interesting. Are you saying the snare should be shifted early?

Try NOT chopping the break into every individual hit..........but chop into pieces of like 2 notes, 3 notes, 4 notes ----some pieces starting with kicks, and some pieces starting with snares..............and then obviously speed up the pitch, and try to put together a sequence. If your pieces are like 3 or 4 notes long - or longer, set their pads to 'Note Off' so you can sequence them at different lengths without them overlapping in a bad way.

I think a lot of times when you hear a little swing in D&B/Jungle, it's because the chops are longer, and you can hear some natural swing in what the drummer was playing in the original break.
For example- listen to "Amen Brother" at normal speed, you can hear that there is a tiny bit of swing in the way the drummer played it - it's not machine-like 16ths.

OK, you asked for it, you got it. Audio example:

http://s25.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1B6M ... 1F13TTGOX7
(both links are the same file)

You'll hear this in 3 SECTIONS:

1) The entire 'Amen' break straight from vinyl (of course it's THEE jungle break)

2) The break chopped up - 5 different pieces - played from the MPC pads
You'll hear each piece with a space in between

3) A sequenced beat (3 patterns) made by:
a. speeding up the pitch on each pad +16
b. matching the BPM to the speed of the break (around 154)
c. recording sequence by hitting the pads (set to 'note off' and holding down each pad to control the length of the chop segment)
d. adding a 808 kick melody (using 16 levels) -you might not hear it unless your computer speakers have some low end

I did this all in like 15 minutes, so I know it's not perfect - the chops are a little sloppy, but you get the idea.

It probably should have been more like 170 BPM, but I wanted it to be easier to hear what's going on.

I'm not from the UK, and I'm not a jungle/D&B expert, so maybe others can help out as well.

Swing is not required with D&B...

you need tight gated kicks, some ghost hits, bit of push and pull hear and there, crisp gated snares that snap out in the mix, fast running hats panned in and out with other reversed samples. remember attack, decay, and release.

Drum and Bass is very machinary...its a timing thing. D&B programming is very advanced stuff.

You got to experiment.
