I've had my MPC1000 since about January, and I play it a lot, but not too much. I'd say I use it for over an hour maybe only 2 or 3 times a week (since I'm waiting to buy more equipment).

The thing is, I always program my kicks and snares to pads 1 and 2, and I've noticed that these pads seem to be getting worn out. I have to hit them increasingly harder to produce the full sound.

Are the pads breaking and is there something I can do?

Thank You for the Help

If you look at the pads on a 1000 and look at the pads on any other mpc you will see the difference in quality. If you play them both, you will see the difference in sensitivity. I dont like the 1000 pads. I think thier cheap.

I wouldn't really worry about the pads breaking....I would however start to use the full level fuction so you don't have to hit the pads so hard!!!!

Co-sign....The only thing good about them is that they are a little wider....Which really doesn't make a difference!!!!

i've always used the full level function from day one, and i always play
my pads the way that my hands are lying on the pads and i just push
em with my fingers. very gently. despite that, 1, 2 & 4 pads are worn out.
they dont respond well and you have to push at the right spot to make it
work. that's why i'm doin all my drums on the next set of pads (5-9).
this is not fun? i mean, i've tried to keep my resale value very high by
cleaning and brushing it often and playing those pads softly, but i've must
done something wrong in my other life since those pads are breaking out!
so, does anyone have experience on taking those pads out and cleaning
em one by one? i talked to couple of guys owning 2kxl's and they've never
experienced this, so those pads must on the cheaper side..

I dont even like texture of the pads on the 1000 to tell you the truth. The best pads ive ever come up on, were on a Roland R8 MKII. Just the right amount of response and the machine was most impressive.

ive had two 1k's. the pad sensitivity is totally different on the new one. they are much more sensitive. on the old one i really had to pound those things! on the new one i actually had to turn the sensitivity down.

on the 2000xl i had for a bit, pad 1 was just a little bit less sensitive than the others. still totally usable but i noticed it. so it does happen to other mpc's..

Hard to tell from other threads - is this an issue with a certain 'batch' of 1K's, or do they essentially all have sensitivity problems? Mine seems like PAD2 is hyper sensitive, and the others are too low.

(Wondering if I should return mine, or if all will have this problem over time...)

the pads will ware out. That is a part of having a MPC. The downside is that I have been noticing the pads 1,2,3 to be the ones that are going bad. But that is due to most people having there samples on those pads everytime. SO what I have been doing is shareing the wealth, but the samples on the other pads to the 1st ones don't get beat up as much.

You guys are making scared ! - I just hope this aint the same build on the MPC 2500 !!! ...I'm just clutching my 2000 XL till I get the all clear !

Seems like people hit this wall after not much use - I wonder if there's something simple that's going on that just needs a tweak. Loose ribbon cable? Adjustable sensor? Seems strange that I only noticed an issue because one pad was SO sensitive, not that one or two went dead. I assume it's easy to open and access if they say hard drive can be added. Time to explore...

hey djdrew, where did you order the separate pads from? been searching my ass off for a site that offers replacement parts for mpc 1000's...

thanks for the possible info, anyone.. :o

And oh yeah! I live in Finland, so if it's possible to point me to a place that ships internationally. thanks!
