What mic????

Was wondering if you guys could let me know what mic that you use to track vocals for all these dope records your puttin out...

or any advice on a good mic to get... I am hoping to be running Pro Tools LE...

do you run it through any out board gear first...

I'd be looking at a large diaphram condenser and pop filter if i was you - i'm sure other users will be able to elaborate more on what they use - but ive been told most condensers blow any dynamic mic out of the water

I dont record much vocals but when I do its through a Shure SM58 which is fine for me, they come out as clear as I need them and the response is decent - as soon as I start recording more and have a studio setup, i'll definately be looking at a condenser..

wrer getting a studio projects b1 anyday now, i have a plug in that allows me to emulate all sorts of expensive mics so i can get good results

Everybody's running a cheap condensor straight into their soundcard nowdays, and you can hear it. If you're going to use a condensor you've got to get your room sounding nice first.

Try something original(ish), like a 57 into a really nice pre, or an EV RE20 instead of a condensor. You'll get a sound that's a bit different from the herds of bedroom producers out there.

and for room sound....if your recording in a small space you should NOT have any room in your vocal...DRY AS POSSIBLE!!!!!!

Trev, what's ur budget to spend on a good mic?
Also, do you want a good mic, or is price the main

What I meant by getting your room sounding nice is putting in some treatment and getting it as dry as possible, so you're not hearing it.

I define a cheap condensor as a condensor that's cheap, ie. affordable, low in price.

I use a K2 and an C3000B a fair bit but they're not always the right tools for the job. I think a trap a lot of people are falling into is that they buy a condensor thinking it's the best and then use it for everything, in a room with no treatment.

My budget would be no more than 500 dollars on the mic. I would consider to spend more if an external pre-am is going to be all the diffrence in the world.... Then I will have to see

how many of you guys are using external mic Pre's running into Pro tools LE?

de question iz bout da mic n pre. problem iz.. unless u be treatin ur room and catz on here not be doin it right den ur sound aint gonna be az good az it can be if u use da large dynamic n high gain pre. try de ev20 (sorry dis aint no secret morgan) or sm7 along wif de rnp pre (or better). if u be buyin hand me down u can get bof for under 5 beniis.

I mainly use a Marshall MXL V77, I also some times switch it with a equitech E300 and like to play with the Shure SM57. All go in to my Focusrite micpre since I record digitally. If you don't have money to play with. Get the SM57. It is versital and so what it is not a large diaphram mic.
