on the real, you deserve all the ridicule that you have been given, for asking a silly question.

that being said, ill try to help you out a lil bit.

there is no "clock" to count bars. if you have any musical sense/rythm, you should be able to, say, tapyour foot in time to the music. if you cant, get out of here and seel all your stuff to a homeless person. if you can, then you can pretty much count bars. if, say, the music is in 4/4 time, then you would count four taps, and that would be a bar. if you are tapping in time to the music. seriously though, most of the people on here ridicule you because you should not need to count, or try very hard, to count any bars. its one of the simplest things about making beats, and if you cant figure it out, please consider choosing another hobby, profession..,. etc....

however, if you believe you have skills, dont let people online deter you. just mess around with your mpc and figure stuff out. remember, the OG beatmakers didnt have online forums to help them learn what bars were. they just did what sounded good. that and they knew what bars were anyway, im sure.

anyway, i only typed this much because i dont want to do my homework (yes im in HS still....) so im out like the 2500

I already posted in another topic about counting bars for you, but then I saw that you came here and said you are still confused...

Yeah I think Penfolds answer was a little harsh but actually he always hacks on everybody like that, so don't take it personal (his sense of humor grew on me and now I laugh my a** off) in fact in your metaphor he is the class clown (hi penfold what's up.)

So let me try again to see if I can clear things up::

When you are bringing in a sample to your mpc or software or whatever, it is just like 'raw data' as far as the machine is concerned. The machine __doesn't know how many bars you just sampled__. The machine can tell how long the sample is, but it can't automatically figure out the tempo.
Once you help things along, by trimming the sample yourself to an even number of bars, THEN you can program in your beats and everything will line up together.

The exception to what I said is software like Ableton Live 5 that uses some very advanced sh** to "listen" to the waveform and detect the bars and tempo. Or something like recycle can almost do it for you, if you're lucky. But don't bother with that yet, I'm sure you do have the skills to count bars, so just learn the process and you'll be fine.

Hope that helped.

Ah right, and i take it good lookin out means "thanks for the advice", or something along those lines? Or is he referring to himself as good lookin and saying "out" instead of goodbye, like a pilot. "Good lookin.........out"

(that last parts a joke........... just incase)

I think im startin to get down with the lingo.

Yeah, it could mean that in most cases (especially here where advice is offered), or if a friend of mine throws me a cold brew or a bud of some ill sh!t, then I'd say, "yo, good lookin'!" 8)
