MPC2000XL ?! I want a Roland SP606

I love the MPC, used it for almost 10 years. I know the machine well, have adapted it and fully upgraded it. But I think I want to sell it and try a roland. Main reason for this is because I use very long samples on stage for my backing tracks and still need midi tracks sequenced.

Am I mad to sell my MPC? has anyone used the roland groove box?

The MPC is rubbish... I wish I didn't buy mine... anyway, how much you selling the heap of metal for ?

the MPC is the white one. It has the IBM208P (additional 8 outputs)
It also has the EB16 FX card installed.

I have also replaced the floppy disk drive for a 100meg zip drive.

I will also give you a 250meg external zip drive and about 6 disks full of samples etc. This is extremely useful as you can connect the zip drive to a pc or mac and dump samples onto the disk then load them up on the MPC straight away.


This is boxed with manual and in perfect condition.

The price is £590 cash, collection only and is not open to offers.

I need portability
I need the ability to resample
I need more fx and hands on control of those fx
I need at least 3 min of sample time
I need A usb connection to transfer samples

The SP606 appears to give me all this (&loads more) and still 16 velocity sensitive pads. Still a midi sequencer.

give me a few good reasons to keep the MPC.

I'm sure everyone will be pleased to hear that I have a solid offer of £590 for my MPC.... I think this is probably the "street value" at the mo' (if you have the added specs)

The SP606 is £545. I'll have change left over man! and what appears to be a much broader machine.

Isn't this forum just upholding the reputation of the MPC being an incredible machine. It was 5-10 years ago. But Akai are not keeping up with the competition. ie roland, korg

the mpc does over 3 minutes of sample time and that 606 aint no more portable than a mpc

No way! Fact is the MPC is the sh*t and always will be the sh*t you wana sell it... fine (which is the same thing a fine bit*h tells a guy when he says he gonna dump her !)

I don't care... there aint never gonna be a bunch of cooler people than MPC heads or the MPC Machine !

Man you sound like some spoilt brat. I'm not gonna sit here and compare how long I've been using the MPC i know it and love it. But at the end of the day i create music and produce day in day out. I just want to keep it all fresh, and want other peoples opinions.

This is a very very bad idea. Roland's sampling engines are beat. That is unless you like lots of extra hiss and crackle. I mean I like the artifacts hardware samplers add to samples but the Roland samplers sucks. Thats only my opinion though. Go to a music store and mess around with the 606.

pads on the roland= murder the feel of the mpc pads

I dont even use my mpc anymore.....its all EPS 16+

Dont do it the mpc is much better because the polyphony on the roland is only 8 mpc is 32. plus 64 track sequencer vs 4 track. chop on the roland only has modes not zones. trim zone is much finer on the mpc, mpc has bpm feature. the roland just to sample you have to push lots of buttons in a row mpc screens are more comfortable. I would combine mpc 2000XL +boss sp 303, use sp for effects ANALOG. the 606 pads feel better but the mpc is more velocity sensitive. the mpc you have to push the pads harder, but i always adjust it in step rec anyway. i borrowed a 606 i would keep the 2000 xl

The MPC is clearly a better buy than the 606. The MPC is like the Ferrari of samplers, and the 606 is the Honda.

If the 606 is what you need then get it, but I strongly reccomend that you stay with your MPC because you might regret selling it.

man i had the same dillema- needed more sampling time and better FX etc- so i copped a second hand phantom XR maxed out (for 1800 AUD), and i control it from my mpc, which gives me the best of both worlds. I sample everything on MPC until i run out of memory, then i load that lot onto the XR and start again on the MPC. Then i use it to trigger and sequence all the samples i have on the fantom.

Works a treat, plus i have all the synth sounds of the XR to boot.
