CHEAT CODE:TURN OFF UR METRONOME

yeah but if your going to give it to some dj to play in a club or mix with your beats going to be off beat and thats wack, could be nice for just making some beats for the head that has crazy sh!t in it that's hard to mix but, i like to try and make my music dj friendly being i'm a dj first then producer.

That's a good idea, but for folks who don't know already, another way to do it is:

open window on the 'COUNT IN' filed in main screen.
Turn in to IN PLAY: OFF
and IN REC: OFF
Then, in the main screen, keep the COUNT IN: ON
set to on.
This way, you get the count in to set it odd, but no metronome
during the actual sequence loop. This is indespensible for
laying kicks or melodies that start on the one after you've
laid a hi hat or whatever.

The only reasons why someone would turn off the quantize are:

A) For adding realism to their drum programming.

OR

B) Too stupid to learn how to use the SEQ EDIT mode.

man, you can get some really cool, different beats from the regular ish when you do stuff like turn off quantize or metronome. it may take yer head some time to get use to it because it's not the same 4/4 formula that everyone is use to... and it may not work out every the time, or jam well in a club setting, but you never know what gems you'll discover if you spend some time experimenting outside the box! Nothing ventured, nothing gained right?
I think if some of the musical legends from the past like Hendrix, Monk or Miles Davis were around today playing mpc's, they'd probably bust some mad tracks with quantize and metronome off. who knows... but just because you don't work that way it doesn't make it a pointless tip/post.

I think you have to balance both. And not confuse a metronome with quantize they are 2 differant things.

A metronome is good because it keeps you in pace with the tempo of the track, however if you have the metronome and turn quantize off......you will get a more realistic track, yet still not stray from the pace of the beats.....this is very important that you learn how to do this.

If you turn the metronome off, unless you have your own internal clock, you will stray off pace. Contrary to what you may think, this is a bad idea. That doesnt mean that you will sound mechanical, or uncreative......but it also depends on the context of doing so. If you are playing with a group, there is gonna have to be someone who keeps a consistant pace, otherwise the music will sound like a mess. Obviously band can learn how to play with each other, but usually they listen to the drummer and the drummer is sort of the bands "metronome". NOW KEEP IN MIND THat if this drummer is going off his own internal clock, he might stray.......but hopefully the band will get use to this or be familiar enough to improvise and thats what usually happens. Try looping some old drums, sometimes you have to chop it up because the first bar is 90.1 and the second is 90.4 and the third is 92. I mean this happens all the time with live music.

Alot of times y ou can turn both the quanitze and metronome off and listen to other music to lay down say a bassline or drum pattern. I suggest making a beat from the drums up. Then take away those drums and lay down new drums according to the music, turning quantize and metronome off.......youll get a alot better sounding track.


Sometimes you need quantize or a metronome. That doesnt mean your shit wont sound creative. Eventually most good producers will rely less and less on the metronome-but they will always need some sort of referance point to put everything else together.

dont befooled. A metronome is a good thing you can still have crazy change ups, but have the ability to stay true to your music. Even if your not hearing that click sound, doesnt mean you arent using chords, or notes as a referance for you other sounds, just like you would a metronome.

There is nothing wrong with using the quantize feature. What ever you feel, go for it. You don't have to make a post to encourage people to turn off their quantize.

That's like telling people to stop hitting their pads and start pressing them.

I like my metronome.

i almost NEVER quantize my beats.

some of my beats you can tell. and theres some that you cant tell the difference.
