Sup y'all
I'm doin' some patching wid cables from my 1k to my digi 002 and wondering about the following:

I'm connecting my 4 individual outs on the 1k which are unbalanced, but the digi 002 jacks where their goin' are balanced. Does this mean the 1k's 4 outputs are line level (-10dBV)? Should I be using balanced, TRS cables to patch this? I'm kinda confused 'cause the 002 manual's tellin me line-level signals varies with each device between the -10dBV and the +4dBu standards. I'm not sure if I have to switch my line inputs on my 002 to -10dBV. What's also confusing is that the manual's tellin' me that all digi 002 outputs are set to 14dB of headroom below 0 dB, meaning you can have up to 14dB of headroom before input or output clipping occurs. The maximum input and output of digi 002 using balanced TRS cables on any of the +4dBu is +18dBu. What in the bloody he!l does this all mean in relation to what i'm at and trying to attempt?

Kinda Konfuzed 'again

Yo spark, took your suggestion and I called digidesign and they basically told me the -10dBV switch on their inputs are mainly for consumer grade cd players etc. to patch, and that unbalanced cables should be routed to the balanced jacks on the digi 002 for the 4 ind. outsputs on the 1k keeping at +4dBu. They could NOT answer however whether the 1k's outputs were line level or not.
Does any1 know if the individual outs are line level @ -10dBV?

Already read the specs sheet, says nothing 'bout line level

I am not a complete expert on this matter but here is my 10cents..... When you say line level what do you really mean. Of course Akai unit will have enough output voltage to operate your mixer you have.

1. What is your main concern of this line level (-10db)?

2. Most line level output are maxed up to 2 volts Usually. That is pleanty considering most source compnents(cd player, tuners) are going to a mixer or control preamp then to a power amp. In factr I am willing to bet that the MPC1000 exceeds the 2 volt on its output.

3. On the back of your Digi02 you have the option to adjust input sesitivity by a switch on the each individual input I believe. Adjust to either and figured which one is loadest for you with out distorting. Good luck!!

Part of thei music thing that we do is experimenting. So experiment and have fun!!!

Sup djDrew,

To answer your questions;

My main concern was when I was patching my gear for the first time earlier last week with my new 002. I just wanted to make sure I was patching my gear with the right cables (by the way I re-visited the tweakheadz lab and refreshed myself on the cables section) and that was solved not long after. The next was to make sure my gear in which i was not using TRS balanced cables was going to recieve good signal quality, and now that you mentioned
"That is pleanty considering most source compnents(cd player, tuners) are going to a mixer or control preamp then to a power amp. In factr I am willing to bet that the MPC1000 exceeds the 2 volt on its output"
Sh@t's making sense now and I'll start experimenting with it all and go with the flow. Thanks for the tips
