It also doesn't have NV Slider-based editing. The xl allows you to adjust start and end points of an edit quickly by just dragging the NV slider and then dialing in for more precise cuts. I'm starting to think real hard on trading the 2000 in for an xl, especially since I plan on doing more vinyl sampling pretty soon and would like easy access features like that.
As far as chopping tips, I'd say, make a copy of your original sound before grabbing a slice. That way all you have to do is truncate instead of going and copying at that point. It's cleaner. Also, have you got a computer? If you're mostly slicing drum breaks, you CAN NOT beat Recycle at accurate automatic attack detection, and it also cleans sounds up by adding a more realistic cutoff envelope per sound, lets you compress/EQ each slice and exports in multiple formats.
If you have a PC with Recycle and MPC Editor (which imports akp files generated by Recycle) you're good to go for quick and easy chopping and importing back to the MPC. You can even play back the original break by having Recycle generate a MIDI file when it creates the akp. Import this MIDI file to the MPC, change the first track to Drum instead of MIDI, and it plays back the original loop, but also allows you to adjust tempo of the loop without timestretching, tuning or other flumpy tricks.
