Why have they stuck with 4 drum banks, could they not have more?

The specifications list at the end of the operator's manual list the "Number of programs" as 24. This is important enough so that it should have been covered in the Program chapter. Search on "24".

It's right there on page 91 in the manual. Chapter 12 explains how to create the programs.

That's not it. I beleive even the MPC2000 and XL has that same blurb.

really 6144 sounds? German distributor told me about only 999 sounds.
If you can have that large amount of 6144 sounds, I really do not understand the limitation of only having 24 programs? with 6144 sounds you could easily have 96 programs filled with 64 sounds each?

I think you are getting mixed up as I was... the 1000 has 24 programs but NO drum banks, it does not work the same as the 2000 in this regard.

anyway 24 programs with the potential for 64 x 4 samples in each one is a fukk of a lot od samples bro! have a look at the spec on an MPC60 if you don't believe me and think how much great music was done with that!

Specially with the flash card expansion means u can change them around pretty quickly... this box has HUGE potential

That's exactly how I thought it works after reading the manual. I wrote the post above citing 24 programs. I figured that AKAI had gotten around the 4 drum program limitation after I saw the screen capture with the programs. It looked like you could scroll or page through the list.

I exactly know what I am sayin....
Its a shame, that you can have theoretically 6144 sounds hold in memory
cause you are stuck with the limitation of only using 1536 sounds within programs (24 x 64),
this is a true limitation!!!!
If you do "don´t stop the music" live performances you would be glad
to have your whole songs in one set. Besides that, there is a definite use for 128 prgs,
if you abuse the mpc1000 for multi-sample prgs like rhodes, different basses, keys and keyboard sounds.
And you may want this, since you got 128 megs of memory now!
I agree you could do great songs with a mpc60 but we live in 2004 now, not 1988.
