What is a "Rack" or "rack sampler"?

What is a "Rack" or "rack sampler"?

A rack is pretty much all the sounds that a keyboard would have just in a smaller unit...Like there is a Triton, which is a keyboard and there is a Triton Rack which is all the Triton sounds on a rack module!!!!

So if the rack module has the same sounds as a keyboard, why would somebody have both? How exactly would use you a rack module with an mpc1000?

Well I dont know anybody who buys a Korg Triton and buys a Korg Triton Rack that would be a waste of money. I have seen people buy a Motif and use a Fantom XR module or other similar things.

U would buy a Module of your choice and u could use a regular keyboard with MIDI I/O or you could buy a MIDI keyboard to control the sounds in the module therefore allowing you to play the sounds on the keys. Once u get everything connected correctly you can sequence in your MPC. Not sure if searched around on this forum but there is a dude name Classic on here who made a video showing how to connect a sound module up to a MPC.

Ok, so I understand the difference between a Keyboard and a rack module, which both can be expensive, but what about VST's? Is this simply the same thing as a keyboard and rack with the only difference being it is a program on the computer and cheaper?
