anyway, i'll post this in here.....

it's been confirmed that a new OS is coming within the next few weeks. i don't know exactly what's going to be in the new OS.. the only thing i do know about it, it's being written to accomidate the hard drive. once the new OS is released, that's when akai is going to make available the list of approved hdds and the type of connector.

so be on the look out.

Good lookin, Sparq! Any word yet about when the mounting kit will be available?

oh, just to let everyone know (if you didn't already) putting in the connector and hard drive (as well as the black kit from the other thread) yourself, will not void your warranty with akai.

Thats good to know, even though my warranty will be up by then. I also noticed that on the MPC2500, installing the HD and/or the CDRW actually will void the warranty. I wonder if that'll change in the future.

there's going to be a long list of approved hdds to choose from. not just the three that was previously mentioned.

Word! I was hoping for this. I sent the list of the 3 HDs that are currently compatible to my brother to see if he was able to find any at his job. He didnt like the specs on any of the current 3... even the Toshiba 40gb (but we havent had a chance to debate about it, considering it's gonna be used in an MPC and not a laptop). I cant wait to see the new list of approved drives, since I'm curious to know what the maximum capacity will be, along with the rest of the specs.

also, i'll put this bit of information in this thread as well since it sort of pertains to this subject.....

I was told that I would not be disappointed with the new OS.

this may be a tease, i don't know. my source is not telling me EXACTLY whats going to be in the new os but just kept telling me that i will not be disappointed because he's not. (he's an advid 1k user himself)

Man, I cant help but wonder what else will be added. I can live without time-stretch, but realtime Q-link functionality and grid edit would be dope as hell. Either way, if those two features never become available, the HD compatability is still a move in the right direction.

I read it somewhere from Akai. I found a link in the 2500 forum. Let me double check it and I'll post the source here.

After reading that again, I guess it would only imply that if you damage the unit due to the installation, then the warranty becomes void. Other than that, if the unit needs service for something entirely different, I doubt theyr'e gonna ask who installed the drives if theres nothing wrong with them.
