sound modules vs. VI's

Truthfully, the best software sampler on the market is Kontakt 2, but its stability SUCKS A#$!


On the synth side, just from my experience, there has not been a softsynth yet, except for virus indigo tdm, that sounds as good as hardware to me. This may be just what my ears prefer, who knows, but to m ears and what I do, a triton synth patches will always sound better than a subtractor or malstrom, or albino, ew vapor synth, etc, etc, and I have tried almost all of them, litterally......The on good thing about soft synths I can say is the easer of creating your own patches, than resampling them into your mpc, s950 roland 700 series or what have you, to give them some real world goodness! Than your on to something!

tx81z-fm7 would be a better comparison. i stopped buying vis when i got reaktor though, so can't compare fm7-tx81z

As For Shure (Not sure) I Use An Sm58 and Sometimes its Fine but other times I Use My RODE.....................

That I can agree on, totally, I hate it when I listen somone artitsts album, and I can name the patch they used, Im so tired of dark bass, and legato strings...

dark bass is pretty dope and legato string is also hot.
i use them all the time but dark bass gets treated to being run through my secret mix of outboard gear and legato strings are always stacked with no less than 4 other string patches. the triton really is one of the best synths ever and continues to amaze me all of the time

I'm from the old school so I've got gear that was out before you could buy VST. That being said I definitely prefer hardware. Once you learn a piece of gear, It's usually very easy to tweak sounds to your preference. It's also true that different types of sounds (for example strings) sound different depending on the construct of the gear. I'll build a horn section using VL trumpets, FM trombones, sampled sax, and then lay in a real sax to top it off. Most folks hear the end result as a totally acoustic horn section. The variety of FM, VL, and Samples makes a huge difference when putting somthing like a string or horn section together. It seems to be more of a personal preference though than an actual difference in audio quality. I've heard some VST sounds that blew me away in terms of raw quality. I think another reason I prefer hardware is that my life is consumed with computers already - from my morning news to billing to mastering I'm stuck in front of a PC. For the same reason I prefer dedicated hard disk recorders and mixers over software units. I feel they work just as well if not better, have less crashes and the feel of hitting the record button or tweaking a 100mm long throw fader just can't be duplicated on a computer. Unfortunately, mastering can't be done nearly as well on hardware as in a PC.

i wouldnt say modules are threatened by software. not at all!! lots of people still dont use computers in their setup. i prefer modules anyday!

i have problems with CPU load and stuff like that when i try to use more then one vsti at once. i upgraded my ram and everything. onot really big on the vsti thing. only when i need it. i think it really depends on your setup. if you have a computer that can handle all that stress then why not?! they have some great vsti's out there. but i need my modules.

at least i dont have to worry about the damn things freezing or getting stuck because of overload lol (unless its a piece of crap)! only problems i really have usually have to do with MIDI issues

It's ALL about Analog Hardware... Softsynths try , but NEVER come close to capturing the essesence, the silence and noise that is between the 0 and 1's.

Maybe someday, with better computers and better programmers, but until then, I've yet to hear ANYTHING software wise like my SE ATC or Moog Memorymoog.


Some people like Yugo's, others like Forumula ones.

To each his own, they both will get you from Portland to LA, but the experience is completely different!
