midi settings/ timing problems

Im using a yamaha aw16g to record with and mpc2000xl to sequence and Ive been having some problems with timing. I use the aw as master. Most of the time its fine but every now and then I cant get them to synch. I have the midiout of the awG to the midi in of the mpc. I have the mpc set to midi time code 30 and mmc on. I have the G set as midi/mmc/mtc-master. Am i missing something? Is there a device id setting in the mpc, i cant seem to find it? Should I be filtering anything in the midi input screen? Ive been reading about midi data clogging but I dont know if this is the prob, anyway if it is how do I fix it. I would be grateful for any help, cheers.

Set the MPC to play back at least one bar before recording. (so they can synch properly, you have been getting lucky when the timing did work)

Not sure if it will help, but this kind of reminds me when I had a Proteus there was a midi setting where you could change the ms coming from the Proteus, hence one device may be slower/faster than the other.. I don't know if this is your problem or not, kind of like using a straw to extinguish a fire truck.... too much data....

Thanks bboutit ,Ill keep looking for the source of this problem and let you know what happens, if you come up with any other ideas, let me know too if you dont mind.
