You have to hit a pad, then push and hold the AFTER KEY while moving the sliders?
Does Akai think we have 3 hands?
I agree with Jahrome, they should develop another way of entering the slider-truncate mode. So you can use your right hand for triggering sounds on the pads while using your left hand on the sliders (without having to hold the AFTER KEY).

Oh yeah, they should implement the same feature on the 2 sliders of the 1000 O.S. right now. Cause i ain't got money for a 2500 yet

You will have to use your index/middle finger to press the AFTER KEY and use your thumb/pointing finger (what is the term for that?) to adjust the Q-link slider. Your other hand can beat on the pads. Its do-able..but I do agree that the other way would be better.

This same feature has been added to the MPC 4000 in April. Akai released the last MPC 1000 update earlier this year so there is still hope for future OS updates.

You know there are credit plans avaialble :D

The MPC 2500 has the standard MPC step edit and has the addition of a grid edit, where you can visually see they steps and recorded notes. You can easily erase and move notes using this function.

- how's the midi CC implementation? can sample or fx parameters be assigned to CCs? is it just the Q-knobs/sliders that can be controlled via midi?

- can sample start and end points be assigned to the Q-knobs/sliders? if so can these points be changed while the sample is playing back?

- how are the pads compared to the older models? how's the general build quality of the machine itself? sturdy?

- what sample and fx parameters can be assigned to the Q-knobs/sliders?

thanks in advance...

still wondering, any luck? :)

Lank,

I answered at least some of those questions already, but I am still looking into the others. The midi CC implementation questions are a little harder to answer especiall since I am doing this freestyle with no reference material besides by own MPC know-how and a Japanese manual which I can barely understand.

hi jahrome!
have you seen any velocity modulation of sample start point? mpc1k miss it along with a separate filter envelope.

Can you tell me exactly what you would do with this function so I can give you a complete answer?

cool, thanks jahrome. yep, i noticed that the build quality was covered. sorry for re-asking that one.

- as far as you can see can sample start/end only be adjusted when editing the sample (as on the 2000xl) or also when it's playing back? this sort of ties in with jocks' question about velocity>sample start. there's all sorts of crazy effects that you can come up by varying the sample start/end parameters in realtime while the sample is playing. most basic would be cutting between different sections of a speech sample while it's being triggered by the sequencer. had some great examples of this on my soundclick page but deleted them recently. also, is it possible to move the sample end point in front of the start time to play the sample in reverse (like on the s612 or Machinedrum UW)?

- i can definitely understand the problem in figuring out the midi CC info without a proper manual (or if that's not something you use much to begin with). any subscreen where you can assign parameters to different midi CCs? how are Q-link controls assigned to CCs?

- which sample parameters (decay, pitch, LFOs, start/end?) can be modulated in realtime while the sample is playing by using the Q-controls?

thanks again for all your help so far with our questions. if cash was no option i'd be in line for a 2500 right now. seems they've taken care of alot of issues that i didn't like about the 2000xl.

Wow, that is sick, just move the start point after the end point and it plays in reverse. Damn that's sick.

loop point modulation would be a great feature for any mpc.

You can only edit start/end point of a sample in the Trim mode. You can use the Q-link sliders or Data wheel.

Not really sure what you are asking here. But you can play any sample in reverse.

The following can me modulated in real-time using the Q-link sliders while the sample/sequence is playing: Tune, Cutoff, Level, Resonance, Pan.

You can enter MIDI CCs directly in the sequence Step Edit mode. I'm looking to test the ability of the Q-link sliders controlling external MIDI modules.
