I will not get into a debate of which MPC 'sounds' the best. I can honestly say that the 2500 is no joke. I sampled some Emu drums from my Proteus 2000 into it. I was impressed. Very impressed. I plan on doing a little more sampling using both the analog and digital inputs and report back. But so far, I can say that there shouldn't be any compalints about the sound of this unit.

There is no PLAY button for the Grid Edit mode like there is in the STEP Edit mode. But this is OS 1.00 so anything is possible. Akai has always added OS updates that have added additional features.

Somethings that are some things that are missing that seem odd to leave out : MIDI panic (ALL note off) and a RESET/Initialize ALL perimeters function. Another thing I miss (from the MPC 300) is the ability to name the MIDI out ports.

You are right Jahrome there isn`t a play mode or play button in the grid mode I checked it out with Mr. Nakamura who was kind enough to demo the unit for me.

I'd like to know how it looks when editting at 96ppqn.

When you're changing the resolution of the grid, are you changing the resolution of the track, or just the display? So, can I have a track that's at 96ppqn, set the of the grid to 1/8 to lay out the basic track, then set the resolution to 96ppqn to fine-tweak the notes? If I reset the grid resolution to 1/8, does my track retain those fine edits?

It looks exactly the same.

This mode is no different than the STEP Edit mode in all MPC. This is just more visual. You can set the time code (1/8, 1/16, OFF) at any time. If you can set it to make fine adjustments which will stay intact..unless you choose/use the FIX function, which will apply timing correct and move notes.
