If you're using LE you can sync using midi beat clock, just have tools as the master, set it up in the usual way and make sure you leave a bar or so at the start to get it all up and running.

Yo I think I know what your askin...
On your 1k, go to MODE, MIDI/SYNC or the pad thats similar to it (i'm not near my 1k) and go to sync and change the settings (i think to 1 if I remember correctly)
In PT LE, you have create an Aux input and use a click plugin. With the timer/click on, once you arm a created track for recording, 'bang! tha mpc will start in sycn without even hittin the pad. All you gotta do is push play on your transport control in LE. If i remember correctly, you might have to go to midi menu to adjust your click settings if you wish. All I know is that this works for me. Hope this helps

You don't need to insert a click, that's only audio. You do have to enable midi sync to your mpc in the sync settings, but it's covered in the manual.

In midi beat clock settings if you're not sure which midi out you're using arm both. Set the mpc's tempo control to external and you should be up and running.

Step 1: Open the manual

Step 2: Read it.

Now you know what you're doing! :)

here's a question......

which pro tools do you have?

mbox
002 surface
002 rack

if it's the mbox, is it the old one or the new one?

if it's the old mbox, do you have a separate midi interface?

By Tha Saint Tue Oct 04, 2005 2:18 pm
Yeah I gotta agree with Sparq..in order 4 us to give you step by step, describe what you have first of all and exactly what you're trying to accomplish (audio/midi), it will help more

I Have the exact same problem + i have the same hardware (almost. Mbox1 + a midi-interface), so i'm really hoping that someone knows the golden answer to this one.. I staid up all night last night.. i've tried everything and i've read everything. wtf!?!

set the mpc to recieve sync in (1 or 2)

plug-in the midicable to the mpc's midi in.

plug-in the midicable to the midi-interface's midi-out port.

enable midi beat clock for the right midi outport.

...that's it right?

I've also tried sending a click to the mpc from protools. no reaction.

also tried enabling machine control. no reaction.

the bpm display just won't change to "ext"... why is it ignoring meee?

first and foremost, does your PT setup even recognize your midi interface??

second, you have to have the mpc's midi out (A or B)going to your midi interface's midi in. and your mpc's midi in(1 or 2) going to your interface's midi out. setup PT to send midi clock info:

To transmit MIDI Beat Clock:
1 Choose MIDI > MIDI Beat Clock.
2 In the MIDI Beat Clock dialog, select the Enable
MIDI Beat Clock option.
3 Select the devices you want to receive MIDI
Beat Clock. If your MIDI interface does not support
transmitting MIDI Beat Clock to separate
ports, only the interface appears as a destination.
4 Click OK.

Once you have done that, go to the mpc and setup the sync info there and you should be fine.

i never had to set a click track when tracking into PT

Okay, maybe i've missed something out.

do i need 2 midi cables?
is it necessary to connect the mpc's midi-out with the midi-interface's midi-in???

if that's the case, why?

The MPC is the slave, and should follow PT right? what does the mpc send to PT??

By sparq Wed Oct 05, 2005 1:36 pm
yes, you need 2 midi cables. you need 1 to send midi data and you need the other to receive midi data.

yes, the mpc will be slaved. but how do you think they will talk to each other? it needs to be a 2 way conversation.

this is basic midi knowledge.

you do know that with the mbox, you are only going to be able to track 2 tracks at a time from the mpc, right?

I wouldn't say that that's basic midi-knowledge I don't need 2 cables when running the MPC as a master with Reason..

And it also didn't say anything in the (MPC)Manual about connecting nothing to the midi-out on the MPC when runnning it as slave..

Anyway. What do you mean by "you can only track 2 tracks at the time?" all tracks will playback when i hit play in PT right?

I appreciate the Help, but there is no reason to be arrogant..
