i wish as well, but realistically that joint is gonna load up samples into the ram just as if you were using the compact flash card.

actually i'm just happy that this os functions correctly (theoretically) where you can access the card and the hardrive at the same time.

i'm having flashbacks to when mpc4000's first came out, fresh with cd burners that couldn't burn cds...

actually, i'm just glad akai is doing something for the 1000 at all. never thought i'd realistically see the day.

That goes without saying Penfold, us British are always being ripped off whether it be clothes, Cd's, DVD's Electronics, even food for f**ks sake.

Hope this isnt the case with the HD kit.

yeah, i'm very curious. Hopefully it has the same TRIM option with the sliders as the 2500 has.

i doubt all of that!!, if they do that and others there will be no point in making a 2500. everyone would buy the 1000 cause would be doing everything.

i think we may even have the adapters for these joints too.....but im also guessin u would have to format this drive in the mpc just like a cf card correct? and i wonder if this can take more than 40gig drive

actually, it will not replace the flash rom as the OS is still going to be installed on it.

as stated, there is no link. please use the number that i provided in the first post of this thread.

for those who are outside of the US (excluding canada) will have to wait until it reaches your market or have someone here order it for you and ship it to you. (best bet)

ROM (read only memory) is also commonly referred to as "flash rom" because of how it can be "flashed" to contain new data (like an OS update will do). Compact Flash is not "flash rom"...I don't remember why it's called Compact Flash, but I'm pretty sure it's not for the same reason "Flash rom" is called flash rom.

The harddrive is meant to replace/supplement the CF card. So you can save sequences, samples, etc to the harddrive instead of the CF card. I could see the CF still being very useful for backup or for taking projects over to another MPC 1000.

sparq wrote:ok people. for those who want it, the pre-order is on....

it's called HDM10 and is retailing for $29 US. Akai direct is taking pre-orders as i type this.

It contains the metal plate that houses the hard drive, and the pin connection kit.

The drawback (for now) is that when connected, the current os will partition the drive only at 2gig. but still be fully functional. (without an os update) when the new os comes out (within the next month) it will take full advantage of the entire hard drive.

i already made my pre-order.... (my total came up to $34.31 shipping included)

the kit will be physically available between the end of this month, the beginning of next month.

with the kit installed and you have a CF card in and connect it to your computer via the usb, the computer will see the card. when you disconnect the usb and pull the card out and reconnect it to the computer, the computer will see the hard drive.

i will keep everyone updated.

UPDATE: to order from Akai direct, call 1-401-658-4032 ext 301

Nice! For around $100, I'd be all set with a new HD and this kit. Definitely worth the money! I'm gonna wait till the new OS is released, since by then I'd like to see what other HDs have been tested to work with the 1K. Would you know if any drives larger than 40gb will be supported in the future? Just curious since you got the inside scoop. 40gb would keep me happy for quite a while, but if any larger drives with better specs will be supported, it might be worth it for a few extra dollars.

it is meant to complement the CF card but not replace anything. as i mentioned, lets say you have the hard drive installed. when you have your computer connect to the mpc via the usb and you have a CF card in the mpc, the computer will see the CF card first. it will not see the hard drive with the CF card in the mpc. if you do not have the CF card in the mpc and the computer is connected to the computer, the computer will see the hard drive.

From what i understand, right now with the current OS, and the hard drive, you will not be able to stream anything from the hard drive. you will be able to audition from the hard drive as you can currently with the CF card. i am NOT saying this to say with the new OS you will be able to stream..... the fact of the matter is I don't know what all the new features of the new OS will have (yet).

also from what i understand, we will still need the 128mb of ram because that's where all the work of the mpc will still take place just like now.

if anything changes b4 the new OS drops, you know i will let you all know.
