Card reader/writer compatibility

Sorry to start another thread about memory card readers, but I couldn't find any threads that talked about this specific one. I currently have a floppy drive and I am wonder if this-

will be able to work with my mpc 2000xl. I have seen the others that do work with mpc2000xls, but this is the cheapest that I could find. So does anyone know if it works with a 2000xl? If it does, will I need any new connecters or do they usually come with the necassary connecters?

Yeah, it'll work. For replacing a floppy, you need to do what is outlined on the following web page.

YOu need a ribbon cable, the same kind you have in your computer for your hard drive..

Go to a computer store and tell them you want an ide hard drive ribbon cable, very cheap.

Although this drive says ATAPI, it does not work!!!! I posted on this subject a few times in the past and nobody else could confirm getting it to work. Don't buy it or it will be sitting on your shelf worthless like mine. I have heard that their cheaper CF only model works from one person on here. The drives have a cheap metal enclosure that do not have the correct placement for bottom screws anyway, so you can't mount it anywhere in the MPC without taking an enclosure off another drive and doing a transplant.

It doubt it since it is:
1) IDE is part of the link address
2) Key Features: IDE compliant
3) "Standard IDE"

There is nothing in the product description that says it is ATAPI, only that it uses the IDE/ATAPI interface. We all know from the "card reader FAQ" to avoid IDE only interfaces.

It's not and IDE only interface. You just said yourself that the website states it utilizes an ide/atapi interface. My card reader has an "ide/atapi" interface so I just assumed this reader would work. I'm still not convinced it won't, either.

for what it's worth, i looked around for cheap atapi options but what's the point? way i see it, i'm only likely to do this once - in terms of the difference it makes to my mpc, i'm happy to shell out for the tried & tested models.

I'd steer away from that one if I was you... First off you need to make your OWN HOLES in the reader.... And second - it doesn't work in the MPC.

I haven't tested it myself but I made a thread about it and got some helpful replies, I can't find it now though coz the search function on this site is shit. In thE end I got the same one used in the MPC MCD - Installed it and works fine. LINK:

Go ahead and waste your money, it won't work. They also don't reply to support questions so you probably wont get your money back either. So now you've spent $35 and you still need to drop another $60 on a working model (plus cards).

I was able to get it to work on several old PCs with various OSes I tried without installing drivers despite this. It is possible that it relies on basic drivers that are in most OSes, just not on the MPC. If you happen to have a computer with a spare IDE slot, then at least you can get use out of it... but you could have gotten a USB one for 1/3 that and not eaten up an IDE slot.

I've gotten PMs from other people who bought it as well and found out the hard way. It's too bad, because it could have been the best one for the buck (and in black) if it did.

I think I was prob in that thread with you too. Thats cool how that link you posted specifically states compatability with the MPC (although it says 2000, not 2000xl, i thought that was wrong), it is probably one of the only reason it sells anymore... I mean, nobody has uses for these on computers anymore unless it is REALLY old. What kills me is that if it is the same manufacturer that makes them for the MPC, why can't we get them in black like on the MCD? Maybe if you order direct, they can hook you up... anyone find one?

I bought this exact same CF drive and it works just fine.

That first link in my sig can help out ALOT if people just take the time to roll through those 3 little pages real quick.

I thought this whole card reader business had been discussed to death
There must be so many thhreads and posts about this subject that anyone willing to do the reading should be able to install a card reader SCSI or ATAPI/IDE without too many problems.
