Other than capitalistic opportunism, I really don't see why it's not possible to add a fair amount of the 2500's features into the 1000, other than the lack of certain hardware features (less Q-link controls, no CDRW).

BTW... I havent seen it mentioned yet, but are the CPUs identical in both units?

No no, the 2500 has much more power, the 1000 is in the red as it is, that;s why they can;t do all the OS stuff people want. but much of the code and hardware is the same. but the main chip in the 2500 can do more. Some people think OS updates can make the 1000 do anything, but there are limits. The 2500 may have been designed first and the 1000 designed as a cut down version to test the waters or because they didn;t have the funds to build the 2500.

Thanks for clarifying that.

Are you serious about the funding for the 1000? This is the first time I heard that story though I heard rumors of the 2500 at least 2 years ago. The links are probably still on the web somewhere.

That's what I try to explain to people about the 4000 but they don't get it. They think the 4000 is just a PC and you're loading software to make it do magic. The 4000 is a few years old too. Expectations and feature requests have increased sinced the release of that MPC which makes the situation even more difficult.

I'm speculating.

Yeah but the 4k hold more memmory than two 2500 put to gather and offers more in sound quality not to mention other shit it the Flag ship

You don't need more than 256 MB on the 4000. I found out the hard way that it is just a waste of money expanding it to 512 MB.

The sound quality isn't really comparable. The 2500 has classic drum sampling for its heritage. Historically, that kind of sampling was combined with a rack sampler. The 4000 has an entirely different sound that works with many types of sampled instruments. Its response curve is flat (some call it bland and other names).

The worst part about the 4000 is other hardware and software technologies are passing it by. I would really like to see an updated model, an MPC4500, but not for $3,500 or a higher price. I guess that's out of the question so don't expect improvements any time soon.

dont need more than 256mb ??? explain
(I only have 256 in mine but that because that all I need. I f I where to start loading up multi-samples than I'd need more)

Sounds flat? how when you get go as low as 8bit on a re-sample and all the damn LFO options and the LIN and LOG curve opition filters, eq, layering.... Its obvious once again people not learning their machines and making excuses for why the cant use them the way they want.

And as far as being passed by from software tell me when this is not going to happen
and hardware I dont see anything out there thats killing it. I mean it has 10 anolog outs, 8 ADAT outs, SPIDF in/out, Turntable connection, SCSI connection and 2 USB connections. The only thing I see it missing is FIREWIRE but I dont see any gear out with that except for sound cards.

the only thing I see the 2500 having over the 4k is SAMPLE CHOP, and thats not somthing Im hard up for.

Im not sayin its (the 2500) is joke...it has it market place and the shit is gonna sell like the 2k classic did when it came out but lets not get shit twisted here

That's just it. You don't need it even with multis. Not only that, when you load a lot of samples into memory the damn machine becomes unstable. The further you get over 256 MB, the worse the problem becomes. Sooner or later you end up rebooting the 4000.

It's supposed to be flat. A FLAT response curve rather than one tuned for drum samples. It's obvious you're not reading carefully.

Dude, you gotta get a modern software sample editor. I shouldn't have to say any more. You can do way more with a software package than an editor in hardware.

I said "TELL ME WHEN ITS NOT GOING TO BE PASSED BY FROM A NEW SOFTWARE" meaning there is always going to be some new software that comes out but so what thats to be expected?

and my point about the sound being flat was that there are an infinite amount of was that you can change this. So what is that to say??

and as far as what you and him are saying about the memory ...I'll just have to check this out on my own because if I belived half the complants I here with out looking into them my self I would have not got the the damn thing. but I have had good luck so far

As far as you are concern, you need to take a reading comprehension class because you don’t understand simple written conversation you missed damn near everything I was saying and what you didn’t comment on I'll give you the benefit of a doubt that maybe you are not a total dumbass but the margin between being and not being is quite slim…..

have a good night

And I thought this part of the MPC forum was dedicated to the MPC 2500. I am pretty sure that this has been talked about to death in the other forum..but go ahead..
