need insight on 8 outs

I have the newly aquired 8 outs on my mpc 2000 and i need to know when recording into my mulit tracker do i turn the levels on my mpc tracks alll the way up or do i adjust track by track..Also do you guys send your tracks thru the 8 outs pairedany particular way for example.....

snare and kick together
hi hats and crash....

out 1 kicks
2 snares
3 hats
4 toms congas
5 cymbals
6 sticks, cowbells, etc
7 other shit
8 Bass

I try to keep like sounds on the same outs, so the EQ can be set pretty much for all.

Not the only way, but the way I do it.

I set the levels in the mixer, but I probably should use the mpc's mixer some too

hey I was thinking about getting the 8 outs. can you send everything thru the regular stereo outs and have just say the kick drum going to one of the 8 outs

Does the mpc save all the 8out info when you save a program?... And im now relizing that other then recording into the multi tracker its probably better just to have it setup this way when creating tracks. or is the 8 outs just use for mixing purposes..

Yes, the output assignments are saved with the program.

I use them all the time. No just for recording. Using a mixer with the 8 outs gives a better sound then just the stereo outs. You may be able to live without it, but summing all your audio signals on a mixer sounds better than the internal summing done on the MPC. Not that the MPC doesn't sound good! Plus, you can then EQ your individulal outputs, which helps when you want to fatten kicks, crisp up snares, etc.

I think it is an esential step in learning how to mix properly.

Even old stuff like the TR 808 sounds much better when using the individual outs.
That's why they provided them stock on the 60 and 3000. They made it an option for the 2000 because it shaved some off the price (hardware tends to run up the cost) and not everyone using the 2000 would want pro features.

Thats sounds about what the doctor ordered..I definitely need a more define sound in my kicks and snares..This is going to be fun.

It's a whole other world. I showed a friend the difference by playing a beat through the 8 outs (with the stereo muted as it often is) then muting the outs and running the stereo outs. It has much less room. And yes it is fun!

But now I wish I had a mixer with EQ memory ;-(

i have the vs 1880 and i can use its 3 band eq plus it has awesome fx that i can save in its memory. Running the 8 outs into it like this however may take up all of hardrive space which i believe is only 8 gigs. Im going to need a upgrade..When i recording stereo outs it doesnt take up that much space

my mpc came with the 8 outs installed. personnaly i didnt really think i would need it. just a luxary. but as stated in some of the above posts its definently better to have it than not. i tend to send out the kicks on there own channel. then hats. and other stabs and vocals to there own channels. then again it can all be done internally on the mpc. but its easy to move the sliders and mute buttons on the mixer when your not in the track mute or mixer section of the mpc. basicly just a little extra external controll.

... thats what it is! I`m using them all the time with my external mixer, to eq and compressor in the insert to fatten up kicks and bass....

what kind of mixer is ok?

i can choose for a mackie 1604vlz pro second hand is this a good one??

or is it better to wait and save money for a soundcraft fx16??
