sparq wrote:here is an update on the kit.

this is for the users who are outside of the US. i was told that for ppl in the UK, for them to pre order this kit, they would have to go to their local mpc dealer (whereever you got your mpc from) and ask them to pre-order it. if they don't know what you talking about when you give them the product number "HDM10", tell them to call akai. it is ok for them to place the order.

i was specifically told about the UK but i am assuming it's the same everywhere. i think Canada can get it from the US.

as far as the date of official release, i would say around mid november for the US. not sure about other parts.

as always, if i find out more, i'll let you know.

I'll just contacted Akai Germany, they said the same. Go to your local Akai dealer and preorder the kit...

Correct me if I am wrong, but the reason only 2GB will be available on the HDD is because of the MPC1000's OS being in FAT16. This makes for a maximum of 2GB per partition.
One possible workaround I see would be to create more partitions at 2GB each, therefore utilizing more of the HDD.
The only other option would be for Akai to switch from FAT to NTSC in their next OS update, but this would require a complete format of both the CF card and the entire HDD, which would SUCK if you already had your memory/disk space filled. Hope this helps clear up some of you're questions.

I doubt Akai would use the NTFS format since it's only recommended on drives larger than 30gb, which means that it wouldnt be a good idea for a 2gb CF card. I'm not sure if Akai will go with FAT32 either, but it might be possible. I wonder what the other added features that Sparq was told about will be added along with this. Whatever they add, it's still a step in the right direction, though I'm not expecting anything big.

well i don't know what the other features are going to be. i was just told that i would be happy about them. as far as the partition and the format. i don't know what the new format is going to be. i thought the same thing regarding the fat16 and 2gb limit. but my source has a 40gb hard drive running with the new OS and he is going to test a 60 and tell me if it works. he also told me that if we have something saved using the 2gb partition, when we install the new os, we will not lose anything and the entire hard drive at that time will be usable. so i am guessing after the install of the new os, the mpc reboots then the new partition will happen automatically.

I havent heard of anyone not recommending NTFS because of volume size, especially as large as 30GB. As far as I know, NTFS can be used on volumes as small as 10MB! Either way, an internal HDD is a great step forward, and I can't wait to try it out. Now we just need a battery.....heh had to sneak that in there. BTW Pete Rock holding the microwave is AWESOME LMFAO. seeya!

Come on Sparq... I know you're holdin' out on us!
Nah, just playin'! I meant to imply that you knew there were other features, but it didnt come out correctly since I didnt word it correctly. :)

8) 8) i knew what you meant. but you are partially right. they are still working out some of the bugs. Like all of the OS's that came out, bugs were in them. they are trying to catch the more obvious ones b4 they release it. i'm sure there will be other bugs once it is released.

but i wish i did know what the other features are. hopefully i'll find out in the next few days. if not, we all will just have to wait until it does.

CF works fine for me, i don't think i'm gonna put the HD in. But i am curious about other new OS options.

I'll get the Kit asap. I currently got a 512MB CF, but no space left on it. I rather pay 80 Bucks for the kit and a 20GB HD, than buying a 1GB CF for 80€...
The main problem is, that it seems like you can't preorder the kit at your Akai dealer here in Germany....
