Dre's Hi-Hat?

doesn't sound that wacky to me- im always doing this- often the beat requires it so but it sound sounds pretty straight- if a little rushed (which is the point)- drum n bass-ers use early snares a lot to get even more urgency out of their beats

I guess it just depends on the degree of the earliness. I've heard some beats that sound crazy sloppy.

Its all relative to where the other hits are placed

yeah I'm not a fan of sloppy beats, I like some that have swing, or a slow snare somewhere to play with time, but you can usually tell the difference of who's doing it and why.

drummers do both push and pull on a beat.

thing is it sounds like everyone is putting their snare bang on the beat which is something you wanna get out of imo

Man, I tried it too and DAYUUUUUUMMMMM...it works!!!...I even shifted my snare a tick early and it gave my sh*t a whole new feel...and it doesn't feel sloppy at all!!! Too cool!

yeah it sounds kinda more forward- i sue it a lot, in fact if im bnot going for a specifically laid back feel my beats generally favour the shifting forward than back.
