What effect is this?

I am wondering what effect Madlib is using on this track:

Lord Such's Otomsiauq Outro

I have heard this "digital sounding" effect on many tracks before including some of J Dilla's tracks.

Do you listen to anything besides madlib, primo or pete rock?

signal modulation, in this case it sounds like a flanger

how bout a phaser or a combination of both which he tweaked in real time(or automated)

Are you asking about the effect on the vocal or on the beat?

I suppose that's a good question, the modualtion was the most prominent effect so I assumed he was refering to that

I was referring to the beat.

the beat has added ring modulation...that along with probalby being sent through his sp or another 12 bit-er....maybe even a little xtra resonance

The effect that sounds like ring mod could just be the SP on its own.
When you sample at 45 and tune down on the SP, you get some crazy grainy ringing sounds resulting from the exagerated aliasing (I assume) ........it sometimes sounds ring mod-ish.
