The songs I saved from my 2000xl cannot be loaded into the 2500 via CF card. It says wrong file when I attempt to load all songs and sequences and programs. WTF---sound like an OS update to me. I've tried all variables of loading to no luck.

JAHROME!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!

Did AKAI advertise somewhere that there is upward compatibility from the 2000XL to the 2500? I don't remember seeing that anywhere. If not, then the old program format or the old card format is sufficiently different so that no migration through the card is possible. Page 103 of the Operator's Manual only states that when a new card is inserted in the 2500 it must be formatted before use. Which MPC was your card formatted in? Try formatting it in the 2500 first.

True, but formatting erases everything off the card.

Soooooooo should I drag the files on my computer--then format the disk and put the files back on the cf, and attempt to load it then?

Thats would I would do. Akai did states that the MPC 2500 will read MPC 2000XL SEQ and Program files. It does not say anything about song files though.

I put the files on my computer, formatted the CF card and put the files back on and attempted to individually load, sequence, and program files saved on a 2KXL--and I still got WRONG FILE! message. The instruction manual clearly says it supports 2K and 2KXL sequence and program files so yes I do believe that someone at Akai flucked up with OS 1.00

no one fuked up!

akai has been doing for years!! get over it!!

you can only transfer .SEQ, .MIDI and .PGM files only

.ALL and APS DO NOT WORK, they only work on the mpc it was made on, cause they carry a ID marker on the files to what version mpc it was made on.

also if u transfer xl files to pc and the filenames are longer than 8 chars then your fuked...so shorten them if do have em long.

Nothing worked. I only have APS and ALL files saved from my 2KXL.--NO indiv. SEQ. files so I'm assed out. I tried making the ALL. a SEQ. file and it said the same thing WRONG FILE. I made the name 5 charac. and that didn't help. Then I made a beat on the 2500 it and saved it---then went back and loaded it with no problem--just to make sure I didn't have a faulty unit.---So hopefully things will change with OS updates or I'm back to flucking step one.

ooh that sucks! I hope they'll change that in a new OS but the US site also says: MPC2000/2000XL: "SEQ, WAV, SND, PGM (Most parameters of a PGM file can be loaded.)"
I was trying to check on the Akai US site how backward compatibility was on the MPC2KXL but noticed that this model has already been deleted from their site........
AKAI - Forward ever, Backward never

thats why i dont want this unit. its compatible with NOTHING! NADA! DE RIEN!!
How are they gonna make mpc users upgrade to this uncompatible machine? ...

"The 2500 cant read 2000 files." There s something seriously wrong with that sentence

Its like Microsoft would make a new Windows OS that doesnt support executables and dlls...
Its like Sony would make a new DVD player which only accepts vhs....

One word: STUPIDITY

I remember when I first got my MPC, my friends say: "Doesnt Akai make junk? Why did you buy something from Akai? You have Digidesign, Roland stuff... Why Akai?"..................... NUFF SAID .

deleting the 2kxl from the Akai US website was a mistake. the MPC2KXL will be put back on the website
