question about upgrading ram

I'm about to go upgrade the RAM for my 1k and i had a stupid question that I can't seem to find. Once I put the ram into my mpc, is that it or do i have to do anything else?

Also I know this has been asked before and if it's in the manual just tell me. How do you view the specs for your mpc again? I think it was while it's loading up you hold something but I forgot.
