"mpc1000 in2 to jv1010 out "

Is there something that you need 'from' the JV. It's been a few years since I used one, but I do not recall needing to record anything useful 'from' the JV.

i think the point mpc3000 was trying to make is that you aren't getting any midi data FROM the jv1010, but rather you are sending midi data TO it.

so there is NO NEED to hook up midi in2 to jv1010 out. that doesn't help you out at all.

everything else you said seems fine. you just gotta make sure you're midi channels are setup correctly on the jv1010 and the 1000 (make sure in the 1000 to obviously have midi ON and whether your midi channels you selected on the 1000 should be 'a' or 'b' ).

Unless he wants to recall the patch(es) or performance he setup for the song automatically. In other words, he can record the MIDI data "sysex" output from the JV -- in effect, it tells the JV which sounds, effects settings, etc. to use for the song the next time its loaded. This is a great use for the MPC, as you don't need to permanently save these parameters on the JV module, or dial them up manually, or even remember what user number you saved them to.

Nice but likely not needed. There are not much of any editable parameters on the physical box itself so it is not like he is going to need to save any edits. 99.99% of the users just need to send bank/program changes to the JV, which does not require a midi out connection.

If someone does edit items on the JV, then they are using a computer editor with both midi's connected to a computer and NOT to an MPC. If that was the case then the users just backup the JV sysex data to the computer.

There are a few things I save as sysex on the MPC and these tend to be heavily edited synths such as the Q Kybd, Virus, JP, MWXT. I have never seen the need to dump info from a Rompler, which tends to be more used for canned sounds.
