IMO

If you are going to use the MPC with a computer and a sound editor, the 1000 is your best bet.
If you want to keep it real... get the 2KXL.

I would rummage through the MPC1000 forum past posts.......I've heard and read too many bad things about the 1000's pads to ever want to buy one.
For me, the XL is tried and true. Road tested and ready.

If you're using a computer and sound editor......just be sure you get a zip drive with the XL (internal or external) and you'll be just fine.

I own a 2kxl and tried a 1000 a few times. My opinion on the 1000 is: nice gizmos (usb especially, mastering functions also) but doesn't really compare to a 2kxl (small, gay pads, and especially that 'darkish' sound), just like a 2kxl doesn't compare to a 60 even though it's technically more advanced.

My advice: get a 2kxl with cardreader (NOT a zip drive, do a search for "click"+"death").

But sorry, i don´t understand what do you mean with "cardreader" and "clik"+"read". Can somebody explain it?

Thanks everybody out there

Okey, i did the search in google of "click"+"death" and i found it. I already bougth and mpc 2000xl+32mb+8output card+scsi zip. What i don´t know is what to do to transfer files from my computer to the mpc because my mac, an imac g5 doesn´t have scsi, just usb and firewall. Does anybody know if there are hard drives with scsi and firewire at the same time???
Sorry for the mistakes

THANKS

get a usb zip drive to connect to your mac. And pray your zip drives last very long (make backups of your disks on a regular base). Good luck with the 2kxl, i think it's a mighty fine machine but I'm a little biased

You can buy a USB-to-SCSI converter cable.

Thanks! I didn´t know that this kind of converters exist.
Yeah!!! Spain is beautiful. I haven´t been in the states yet but i´ll do it for sure! I cannot wait to put my hands on the mpc. I´ve been working with reason for 3 years and if you put your effors, it can sound great but still soulless, too computarized, the sequencer is poor.
I bought my mpc 2000xl+32mb+8 outs expander card+scsi zip for 600$. I think is a good deal. I will have it 2day or 2morrow so i will make you know
Thanks again

Don't waste your money on a USB-SCSI cable as you cannot install the drivers you would need on your MPC.

But you can use it to connect your SCSI zip for the mpc to your mac
