Difference in features and sound between a 2k and 2k XL?

What are the differences between the two? I could pick up a 2k for under 550 with zip drive. If the 2k and 2k XL are quite similar i might just cop it. I'm not a fan of the timing of computer sequencers at all, so i'm going hardware for drums only.

The xl got a few more features, good ones too:

timestretch,
three more drums, (ie can use 64x3 more sounds)
the wheel is much better imo allowing you to trim samples etc much faster,
you can use the slider without having to press stop to change its function.
dedicated next seq button,
flip up screen.
when deleting sounds it doesn't calculate until you return to the sample screen (this can get annoying on the 2000)
theres a few more too, can't think.
I've used both a lot and i much prefere the xl, i find it quicker to work on, but essentially they're both the same.

the data wheel is easier to use on the classic 2k if you ask me

yeh i agree about the data wheel. I've owned an xl and now own a classic and I'd say they're both great machines and if u can get either for a good price do it!! If ya using it for drums then the differences dont matter I reckon. Timestretch on ya pc as well, much quicker.

I´ve always heard that 2k has better sound or AD/DA converters than XL...

that's a good question ! cause I got a classic 2K when am thinking of maybe swith it to a 2kXL. Main reason is ; I hate the screen on the classic 2K + it doesn't have time stretch.... but I use my 60 mainly for drums anyway and my 2K for other longer samples, cause it has a zip + a lot more memory.

Interesting, you really think so?
Have you given it enough time to get used to the xl wheel (a couple of weeks or so)
Cause I see a huge improvement on the wheel, maybe thats just me.

I've heard that too but I hear no diff and the ADs are the same.

Ive got a completly maxed out MPC 2000xl with full ram, eb16 effects card and 8outs. Im getting a 1k instead i think it would suit my needs better. Ill PM with the details if your interested.

There is no sound difference in the MPC2000 Classic or the MPC2000XL.........

Buy a`S3000 or S5000 and control it over midi. I think you can find a S5000/s6000 in good condition used and it'll be a lot better than buying a mpc2000xl (in terms of sound quality alone). In fact, unless you rock out on your 2000 and 60 at the same feckin time (which few do), sell the 2000 and that'll pay for the s6000 with the datchable screen and everything.

not a couple weeks, but ive had about 4 solid days of beatmaking on the xl. ive been on the 2k classic now for almost 6 years though so maybe im just used to the data wheel on that model. Using the xl in general was uncomfortable to me lol.
