Possible to acquire bugs/viruses in mpc?

Is it possible for a file (snd,wav,pgm...) to carry a virus or bug of some sort that could corrupt your mpc's os?

I doubt it, very much even but then again I don't know the inner secrets of the MPC's OS.

The only effect a BAD/EVIL file of the above type would have on an MPC2000XL would be:

a) to cause the MPC2000XL internal exception handler routines to display an appropriate error.

or ..

b) cause the MPC2000XL to crash into its debugger or lockup.

Nothing serious that wouldn't or couldn't be fixed by a power cycle of the MPC2000XL.

do u even know what a virus is?

for a virus to be damaging to a MPC the designer of the virus would have to understand how the MPC works in the first place in order to know how to damage it. And since we dont know the inner workings of the MPC in terms of software its HIGHLY not LIKELY we will not get a virus for the MPC!

the closet we can get it is Corrupt OS's, modified OS's etc... OH and STUPID and LACK OR CARE for your MPC.

Yo that's bull shit because I downloaded some drum sounds from looperman.com...... I used them for one day and the next day my Mpc 200 freezes......I am pissed the hell off. i know that its from those sounds. Now it just freezes and it shows a whole bunch of letters and numbers somebody please help!!!!!!!!!!!

Be a bit more specific ... if you can.

1: which sounds from LOOPERMAN.COM ? ( so some of us may try out a load ).

2: what format were the sounds in when loaded into your MPC ? ( wav edited by you ? wav as downloaded ? or mpc snd ? )

3: is your MPC an MPC2000 ? or a MPC2000XL ?

4: the whole bunch of letters and numbers have a meaning ... what were/are they

I downloaded a bunch of drum kits and sounds from looperman.com
R&b drum kits a, b, c
Flutes
Roland tr-808 sounds, soundmaster drum kits, rythm ace drum kits, rythm 77 drum kits, rythm 33 drum kits, roland 808s, roland tr-727, and 606
All of these were drum kits that were already wav files.
The Mpc is a 2000 classic, and as far as the letters and numbers once it happens to me again I will post again. they are about 15 to 25 letters and numbers in a row. Thanks in advance for the help.

Ok ...

Where the WAV files downloaded are concerned they may contain extra data within certain stucture place holding areas.

Stuff that the MPC2000 CLASSIC will most possibly not handle in a correct manner. A crash at this point is possible.

I'm guessing you're using a PC ? If so ...

Go online to http://www.lightlink.com/tjweber/StripWav/StripWav.html

Parse your downloaded *.wav files through this utility before loading them into your MPC2000 CLASSIC.

Remember too to ensure that *.wav files being loaded into your MPC2000 CLASSIC are 16bit / 44.1 kHz.

Perhaps consider too if you're a PC user to investigate use of the MIDICASE MPC-EDITOR for creation of programs and conversion of any type of *.WAV to the proprietry ( and faster loading ) *.SND type ultimately used in your MPC2000 CLASSIC.

Make certain you're booting your MPC2000 CLASSIC from a current OS disk.

Wouldn't hurt to make a fresh OS disk too in this instance.

C'mon man, I agree its a simple question, but its one that could have been answered its self, what does it take to think outside the box? ..nothing... but the same energy it took to ask the question in the first place...besides its been asked 1000 times on this forum!
