i changed OS. now i have problem

yesterday i decided to install my multicard reader to my 2000xl. so i did like:

before i started. i changed my OS to 1.2. then i got problem. mpc didn't work. when i get it on it asked some "mpc2000xl disk" or something and finally it just flipped. i thought it derived that i haven't installed multicard reader. so i tried to install multicard reader but i noticed that my IDE flat cable was wrong. now i dont have diskcase or multicard reader and i have big headache. my mpc dont work.

now tell me do i stress for nothing. will it work when i install multicard reader or is my mpc just **** up forever.

did you replace your internal zipdrive by a cardreader or was it a floppy drive you replaced ?

it was floppy. so i installed new os 1.2 for multicard reader before i started to assemble that.

Ok put the floppy back in, install os 1.14 back and then reinstall the cf reader. Once the cf reader is installed and functioning properly you can upgrade back to os 1.20

yeah. i was thinking that but when i took floppy away from mpc. one cable get damage so i need new one if i want to put it back. if i put that floppy back i still suspect that i can install os 1.14 cause after i installed os 1.2 my mpc like i told get f*cked up. i clarify.

now when i push power it says "insert mpc2000xl disk". so i inserted floppy where was 1.2 next my mpc just flipped. you know? i want cry.

You can install the floppy disk back indeed. Look at the cable if its installed right.

off course but now i cant install neather multicard reader nor floppy. im so stupid that i broke one floppy cable and for reader i dont have right flat cable. i just want to know that its normal if mpc with os 1.2 doesnt work if you have floppy.

if anyone have had same problem i would be happy to hear how they solve it.

Problem:

-You attempted to load a corrupted OS into the MPC.
-MPC erases OS Flash area and rejects the corrupted one.
-You MPC still works, but just like MPC2000 model where you need any disk with an OS for it to load.


Solution:
-Fix any drive.
-Re-download OS. DO NOT EXTRACT OS TO YOUR COMPUTER DRIVE. ONLY EXTRACT DIRECTLY TO FLOPPY OR FLASH THAT THE MPC WILL BE READING.
-boot MPC and manually load the OS.

today i got flat cable and i installed multicard reader and i guess it worked (readers light is on). i think that i did mistake when i installed new OS 1.2. it was .BIN file. f*ck! i loaded it from akaipro.com and thought it was ok but... i dont know.

i have tried to install over again OS 1.2 with compact flash card but mpc say only this "insert akai mpc2000xl disk " and blink text "generade IDE card".

what is that mpc2000xl disk? what a f*ck is happening in mpc? how i can fix it? tell me.

So you installed the card reader and you guess it works. (make sure it's set to MASTER)
Now you downloaded a 1.20 os file (which is a BIN file)
you put that binfile on a cf card insert it in the mpc and power up the mpc.
What happens ?

saturday i started to install reader to mpc. so i did like this:

first i tried to install new OS 1.2 with floppy. it was .BIN file from akaipro.com. i loaded it and restarted mpc but machine asked some mpc2000xl disk. i tried OS 1.2 floppy again but it didnt work. i thought that floppy was broke or OS 1.2 just dont work with floppy drive.
so i tried to assemble reader. i released floppy and done cables that i needed but then i noticed that my IDE flat cable didnt fit. cause it was saturday i had to wait for monday that i could buy new cable.

yesterday i got this cable and installed reader. like i said i guess it works cause mpc recognise it. i tried to load OS 1.2 again with multicard. now when i turn mpc on and put multicard in it says alternately "insert mpc2000xl disk" and "generic IDE card" or something. i guess reader works.

thanks for all who try to help. in finland you cant get easily help for mpc problems. so every advice is important.

AFAI can remeber you have to power on your mpc while keeping the play button pressed and of course have a disk/cf card with and os on in your drive. But this has been discussed a few times in the threads, so a search will give you the exact procedure.

can i format CF card in winxp ? i mean would it work normally on mpc
