ugh HELP look plz

took apart my 1k and dont know how to put back together, i am stupid and the reason i took it apart was to check out my shift switch wich was almost cracked (broken) to begin with and i fidled with it while faceplate was off and broke it for good snapped it, umm anyone know where i can see diagrams of how to put this thing back together? i guess i shoudlnt have done this after smoking either.. help lol

ah shit sorry to hear dude i did the same thing . the first time i took apart my faceplate i didnt unscrew the one screw by the compactflash slot. 3 or 4 of my buttons bent or broke but nothing some super super glue couldnt fix. but yeah i gotta go buy some buttons but their like 5 bucks each so im not too sure if im going to order them just yet oh yeah and my stupid faceplate bent so its kinda off on the pad part and on he button parts. **** stupid me.

i'll give you some advice.

read it. memorize it.

ive broken my fair share of things.

now whenever i open anything, i go and get a plastic tupperware thing to place screws in. a brush to rid equipment of dust, and all the screwdrivers i'd ever need. I take all the time in the world. i set aside an hour or two. DO NOT RUSH ANYTHING. IT IS NOT WORTH IT!. just take your time, IT IS NOT A **** RACE!.

when I took mine apart I kinda sorta forgot about the screws by the mem card slot but luckily I noticed then and stopped trying to pry it off


never pry anything on equipment like this - ever

when I put mine back together tho the down button didnt work

like I said before I felt like punching my self in the face

but I didnt

but I was buggin

so I took it apart

said a prayer

and played with the buttons without the face cover on and luckily it worked for me



but yeah - superglue should work for the buttons

if not - reorder them

but really

you should be able to backtrack to put it together

can you post a pic of what you have done so far so one of us can give you an idea on what to do

send it back to akai and tell them all the screws fell out.

...screws fall out all the time, the world is an imperfect place.

i think i bent my faceplate abit too by trying to get it off bfore i realised there wqas another screw..haha at least i know im not the only one stupid enough to **** wit the ish. anyways the problem is now when i screw the shit back together, it pushes down on my main and a couple other buttons so when it is screwed in properly the Main button doesnt push down anymore..cuz its already being pushed down..yknow?> and i got a place to send it to but itsl ike 65$ an hour for repairs sposed to take 1.5-2hrs, and i have to ship from canada..im gona go down to where i bought it from and see what they say.. i think the year warrenty is done, and i dont think i have the bill cuz i got a discount cash price through a friend so yeah iom not sure whats gona happen.

send it to me ill put it together for 30 us dollars

You voided the warranty the minute you unscrewed the faceplate from the rest of the body. This doesnt apply to opening the slot to the memory card, but to removing the entire faceplate exposing the internal componets.
So, if youre gonna try to take it somewhere to get it fixed and and take advantage of any kind of warranty, dont tell em you removed anything! I work for an Akai dealer and I see ALOT of people bringing in their gear to have it fixed after doing some dumb sh*t to it and we cant fix it cause they voided the warranty. Also, its not too smart to work on a piece of electronic equipment after getting smoked up. Thats your fault.

On a side note, if youre planning on putting in the hard drive and adapter kit, get an authorized Akai dealer to do it. It protects you and your gear.

im not sure where the closest authorized akai dealer is around here though.. i dont know.. whens the hard drive and adapter kit coming out? whats an adapter kit

to get it fixed by akai them selves you have to send it to them

and unscrewing the faceplate does not void warranty

there is no seal to break to show that you took it apart

it sounds like something you might just repair on your own.

can you please take a pic of it so we can try and give you some ideas on how to fix it?

that is not a true statement. for one, when you open it to put the hard drive kit in, that DOES NOT void the warranty. that is a fact.

I ask because I just spoke with Dave over at V.S.T. and he re-confirms my statement.
If you remove the protective faceplate and expose your internal componets for any reason and damage occurs...your warranty will not cover it.

I deal with this kind of thing all the time.
Im not trying to get a fight started, just trying to help dude out by telling him "Dont let them know you removed the faceplate if you want to take advantage of any kind of warranty"

Also if you refer to rule#14 in your OWNERS MANUAL...
REFER ALL SERVICING TO QUALIFIED PERSONEL...

i get my info directly from akai, not from an authorized dealer/service center. to upgrade your unit (as in putting a hard drive in) and you open your unit, that does not void the warranty. if you open it and start messing around with the circuitry, then yes you would void your warranty. but my post just stated openning your unit alone will not void it. i did not get into if you open it and start f'ing around with it.

i specifically was told, any user openning it to install the hard drive will not void the warranty.

if you go back and read your post and my reply you will notice my response was direct, not vague.
